Those 1980s keyboards aren't set up to attach to a modern computer via a USB port. They may have the old keyboard plug, but most modern computers don't come with the old keyboard plug any more.

Yes, the Selectric had the exchangeable fonts that were a metal ball that snapped into place.

You can buy PS2 to USB connectors for very little money.

Yes, but they aren't all created alike. I discovered that the hard way and had to contact the company (Unicomp) to find out which one specifically would work with their keyboard.

I had to buy an internal PCI Card with PS2 keyboard & mouse ports to get my ancient HP keyboard working on a computer with only USB ports.

And some of those IBM keyboards have the bigger 'AT' plugs.

I took a course in coding in college. Be thankful I did not pursue it further or we would be dealing with my bugs to this day. However 3D art programs are great.

Huh, I bet nobody else used a VideoWriter to get an $84,000 federal DOE grant and quit her day job into the salary it covered. Where I ran the programs it funded from 2mb hard drive in DOS. Right before Word and WYSIWYG took over the typesetting industry. Before I left I proofread the WYSIWYG marketing ads.

!! Senoufou, you're doing brilliantly if you can manage life with a computer without using copy\paste.
It's a lot harder to describe and understand in written words than it would be if you could have somebody sitting beside you though.
Don't the libraries have some introductory lessons or 'buddy' systems?
Hearing you don't use copy\paste feels like hearing that you get your water from a well in the garden and your light from an oil lamp because nobody has shown you which way to twist that pair of shiny things in the kitchen or press a switch!!(plastic thing near the door at about shoulder height) ;)
Get a buddy - one of your nieces??

I'm forever wrecking keyboards; fag ash down them and other damage. I was in a bad state last week with sticking keys causing trouble (x key would repeat, ctrl key getting stuck was interesting, etc.) and if that wasn't enough, I also had a mouse that would randomly double click for a single click...

This time round I've bought a MS 2000 set to replace the Anker one I had before. I'm struggling with it at the moment. I'm not much more than a 2 fingered typist but my fingers still know where they are going sometimes. This kb must be smaller than the previous one as I keep "over stretching". Not a lot but I am eg. hitting the numeric kp 0 when I want a right arrow.

Most of the Unicomp keyboards are hefty in size, but they do have a smaller footprint one that will probably be my next version. It's the case the board is in that is unnecessarily large.

Hahahahaaaa Freddy, your post made me laugh!

Sadly my nieces live up in Scotland, and I don't see them very often.

I don't really mind not knowing much about computers. I manage to type and post, and look at Youtube. I can Google and find out stuff, it's excellent.

My husband is better than me, even though he comes from quite a primitive, basic home. (No running water, sewage system, electricity except nicked power from a cable outside the compound - v dangerous!)
He can do quite a bit, but I don't think he can copy or paste.

I hate the idea of a phobile moan, and prefer to speak to people face-to-face.
I'm a bit of a Victorian relic!

I'm a bit odd on the "techy side". I'm currently playing with writing a front end to a scanner library which, although a play, might even become the scanner software of choice for Pip... I can work my way (within limitations...) through some software things and to a lesser degree hardware (say an Arduino) if I feel a need or desire. But I'm not interested a lot of the time and there are for example people who "just use" their mobiles who would flash through things that would have me scratching my head. I even have to think how to dial on one mine, I use that so rarely...
