...and the latest one is Emma Thompson.

Or Nancy Pelosi, we hope.

Chongo would agree with that.

Was it Vanessa Redgrave who said no thank you
when she was offered a similar hono[u]r?

When Emma Thompson went to Buckingham Palace to receive her Honour, she wore a trouser suit (ladies are 'advised' to wear a dress) and some trainers (but they were ethically manufactured ones) and a badge promoting Equal Pay for Women.
She took along her family, including a young Rwandan she'd adopted.
She apparently asked Prince William for a kiss! (He politely declined)
She strikes me as a bit of a one!

Yes, that report, with photos, was in the Daily Mail.
I agree, they broke the mo[u]ld when they made THAT one.

She didn't actually ask for a kiss, but did remark to PW that asking for one was not good "show". And remarked to the press to the effect "why should I wear crippling footware"

I cannot but agree with her. I shudder when I see women attempting dance - or hurried locomotion - in high heels.

I've never owned a pair of high-heeled shoes and would flatly (see what I did there?) refuse to wear any.

Also, trousers are easier to wear than dresses/skirts, and more comfortable, not requiring tights (another item I don't possess)

I reckon nowadays women should be able to wear what men do if they wish.

I think it's wonderful she adopted a Rwandan.

She seems to be someone who thinks for herself and isn't influenced by the current mob of what I call 'Silly Lasses'.

That's what I meant by 'A Bit of a One'. Unconventional and thoughtful. (And brilliant in Nanny McPhee and Love Actually)

"I reckon nowadays women should be able to wear what men do if they wish."

And vice versa. Though I do have some trouble with sizes and tackle-room...

I did have some boots with raised heels at one time. They were meant to throw my weight forward to cure a spur of bone that had grown in my heel after a foot injury. It worked after about 6 weeks.
I quite liked them although I had to duck under more doorways!

Robin

Do you wear suspenders and a bra? (You're a lumberjack and you're okay...)

No wonder I am confused about Vanessa Redgrave.
I had to stop what I was doing,
and go back and read what I have not read in the past,
do some catching up.

In 1999 La Redgrave initially said no, when offered the hono[u]r.
More recently (I lack the date)
she agreed to something a little different
and she is now a CBE, a Commander.
