Subject: Dublin - music / food ?? From: Thomas Stern Date: 18 Nov 18 - 07:04 PM Relatives will be in DUBLIN for a couple of days this week. Are there any accessible restaurants or other venues which offer good traditional music and food ?? Thanks! Thomas. |
Subject: RE: Dublin - music / food ?? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 18 Nov 18 - 08:04 PM We were there in March this year and got both food and music in The Brazen Head (Dublin's oldest pub), along near Merchant Quay. The music started about 9 pm, and we enjoyed listening to the 3 guys in the smaller bar: good mix of songs and tunes. May depend what night you're there for what music is on offer. The bigger bar also had live music and food, but pretty overdone on the amplification. Also tried the one over the road from it, O'Sheas: great box player, but also far too loud for my liking. I gather the Cobblestone is good for music, but not sure if they do food too. Temple Bar area may be best avoided. |

From: FreddyHeadey Date: 18 Nov 18 - 10:10 PM Some Dublin venues are on the "folk club map". ... sometimes this link actually opens in 'maps' but doesn't display the details ... best to copy the link & paste it in a browser https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1plE0C69JOiO8FotbmDlDvE2qxbM&ll=53.34916574645684%2C-6.267090809623028&z=15 I wouldn't expect food at the Cobblestone...? Don't quote me on that. But there are modern restaurants in Smithfield, a couple of minutes away. Like 'Oscars' https://goo.gl/maps/B1zuoAcbhJE2 |

Subject: RE: Dublin - music / food ?? From: Jim Carroll Date: 19 Nov 18 - 07:45 AM Not sure about recommending food anywhere where they play music - the one which advertised music dancing and meals on the Quays (turn right out of O'Connell Street is not particularly to be reccomended for any of these things Plenty of places to eat - far more than I can ever remember (Brother Hubbards, The Cedar Tree, The Knossos... Sammy Chung's does a fair buffet), quite a few good Indian restaurants in the Dame Street area) - no music No food, but O'Donoghue's in Merrion Row has a nice relaxed afternoon music session on Fridays - you could take them to the Irish Traditional Music Archive whic is within walking distance in Merrion Square Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: Dublin - music / food ?? From: FreddyHeadey Date: 19 Nov 18 - 09:26 AM for music Jim typed a list in an older thread thread.cfm?threadid=164504&messages=23#3937605 |
Subject: RE: Dublin - music / food ?? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 20 Nov 18 - 02:16 PM Just to clarify for Jim: we did have the food first, and then stayed on for the music later! Good food, generous portions and reasonable prices even bearing in mind the drop of the £ against the Euro! |
