From: Jim Carroll

Just listened to a newly issued double CD of Robert Cinnamond songs
Cdz one is a reissue of the 1975 Topic album, Cd 2 comprises 15 songs originally sung by this superb veteran singer sung by modern exponents of the traditional singer's art
They are: Jane Cassidy, Len Graham Brian O hAirt, Maurice Leyden, Méabh Meir, Jennifer Orr and Roisín White - Roisin organised the project
The singing, all unaccompanied, is excellent, and the songs, ranging from the Music Hall piece from the 1890s, 'The New Tramway' through to an excellent version of Willie of Winsbury (Ch. 100) entitled 'The Rich Shipowner's Daughter
This is a superb addition to any folk-song lover's collmection
Enjoy - can't recommend it too highly!

I haven't discovered how this can be obtained yet, but I know it can be got from The Goilín Singers Club in Dublin, whose generosity, along with others helped make this possible

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The An Góilin has done some great compilations, the "Early Ballads in Ireland" being another. Not easy to find to buy, I think the latter is sold by ITMA so perhaps this set will be also.

I was just saying in another thread that "There was a lady lived in the west" by Robert Cinnamond, on VOTP17, is an excellent and uncommon version of Child 100. Do you know if the version on this cd is the same version by a different title?

Yes Pam, it is. On Cinnamond's original LP You Rambling Boys of Pleasure, this track just had another title, The Rich Shipowner's Daughter.

Will find out today Richard
The producer, Roisín White is a friend and lives here in Miltown, she should have the details
I know The Goilín Club has them - they assisted in the project; The Irish Traditional Music Archive should also have them by now, but Im not sure when they com out of New Year Hibernation, perhaps today.
Watch this space
Jim

For anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with this singer, there is an excellent biography on-line at Robert Cinnamond - the Ballinderry Balladeer
