TEN GLOBAL TASKS FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM

1. Get a piece of luminous tape to put on the house key which currently looks like other keys, so I don't have to fumble for the keys all the time. Planning to do this since 12/12/97.

2. Assess total numbers of black socks and brown socks separately and divide each category by two, using result to determine whether I need new black socks or brown socks. Planning to do this since 5/6/99.

3. Write name of object on sales slip of product being written off for tax purposes. Planning to do this since 4/13/98.

4. Use 3 hole punch to do something about the sheet music around the house. Consider, now having punched holes in sheet music, purchasing binders (before 2004, if possible). Planning to do this since 1/1/98.

5. Bring own water bottle into movies, also smuggle in snack, thus forestalling surrounding of theatre by bankruptcy police following conclusion of film. Planning to do this since movies went over $5.00.

6. Throw out all old battered file folders saved for reuse. Buy new ones. Think of it as mad passionate, what the hell, out of control fling kind of thing. Unplanned. Go for it.

7. Take CD out of case. Play CD. Put CD back in case. Put CD back in case. Hey, you -- put the CD back in the damn case!

8. When using scotch tape, remember to fold the end over so that when next used, circle of flat tape hell is avoided. Planned since 3/5/59.

9. When actor friend invites you to opening night, do not go, or if going, make sure that you have airtight reason -- hijacking, prison riot, flight to Nobel symposium -- for not staying after to discuss wonderful evening. Planned since first night of "Lesbians on Omaha Beach" (forget date exactly, not June 6).

10. Post list somewhere you will read it. Hmm. Buy tacks and also additional cork board. Planned since 12/28/99.

My project for the New Millenium
I've completed my 40 year long Life Book as of 1999.
I plan to start a new book with the turning of the century to cover the next 40 years.
My previous book was woven with sadness & drama. This new book shall contain adventure, magic & romance.

Wow, BB, that's impressive! Peter, I hear you on the file folders, I finally did! There's nothing like an anticipated move to motivate one to do such things.

I have determined to simplify my diet to more water, rice, raw fruits and veggies.

Write more. Finish the ranch book and the novel.

Setting new ground rules for relatives. No coming to visit or calling during certain hours, so that I might actually write, uninterrupted!

I bought the file folders back in June- now they're completely buried under all the crap I want to put in them! And on top of that, all the wrapping paper, boxes I might need someday, junk stuffed in as the guests are arriving, etc etc etc. My list is topped with: Make no more lists I know I can't keep!

Peter,

Number 7 "Put the cd back in the damn case, you!" made me LOL. I'm not as bad with cds as I was with vinyl, cause I'd put a whole stack in the changer. My pipe dream is to have one of those cd players that holds a whole LOT of cds, like a jukebox.

Not that I have all the other areas under control, by any means. The only one I'm pretty good at is sneaking snacks into movies. How about "Set a limit to how many hours I can spend on mudcat, and stick to it!" Or "Fold and put away clean sox and other laundry, and put away clean dishes." Or "Give or throw away more 'STUFF', and buy less, until you have a reasonable amount." I was pretty broke, so I gave away stuff of my own for Christmas-sweaters that were too small or the wrong color for me, boots that were too big for me, etc.

More suggestions for resolutions might be extractable from the "If there wasn't any women in the world" thread. Such as, "Don't get into the habit of only washing dishes BEFORE you need to use them". Happy New Year!

I will
1. Like Animaterra, make no more lists (after this one)
2. visit Mudcat occasionally
3. get up on some of the mornings.
4. spend more time playing.
5. write more songs than I did this year.
6. spend more time in the yard.
7. let the mechanic fix the car.
8. ride my bike at least once.
9. get to work late more often.
10. answer at least one email or maybe even a letter.

But of course I won't start doing any of this until 2001 (unless I feel like it)

A jukebox was my solution to Peter T.'s #7. It seems to be working well so far, until the cd collection outgrows the jukebox, then I'm faced with the same dilemma.

For the new millennium I think I'm going to throw in the towel, resign myself to the fact that I'm a hopelessly disorganized, incorrigibly lazy sot, and learn to live with it. Gee, that was so easy. I feel better already.

Getting the rest of the household to go along with my final surrender, well....where's that "If there weren't any women in the world" thread?
