The cold war was more of a cold peace. The bomb had a lot to do with that. So I for one am OK with it.

The service is, I understand, to commemorate 50 years of peace and the Royal Navy's role in helping to maintain it. The presence of nuclear weapons may also have had something to do with it. However, to describe the service as a "thanksgiving for the bomb" is the sort of journalistic distortion we would expect from the likes of [insert newspaper of your choice here].

But to answer the OP, Chesterton's hymn "O God of earth and altar" would seem to be still as appropriate as ever.

Ah; I see I didn't entirely appreciate the context on the first pass, and that the Minuet may be better assigned to the protestors than to the service proper.

Its not a hymn, but it was written by someone perhaps best known as a hymnwriter, The Crow on the Cradle.
