A true mint julep (according to my southern-raised wife) is mint bruised with broken but not crushed ice over which an excellent bourbon (e.g., Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve ) is poured. Powdered sugar is gently wafted onto the leaves of the mint, and it is served in an ice-cold silver Jefferson cup. |
