Subject: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: punkfolkrocker Date: 02 Jul 19 - 10:10 AM While inspecting the kitchen for single use plastic to cut back on, and considering the harmful effects of barbecues and the occasional garden bonfire.. y'know.. try to do our small bit and all that... perhaps even make plastic bottle bricks to donate to the high street hippy food shop... Then it occurred to me.. Wars.. as much fun as they may be for the politicians and high military commanders.. they kind of fuck the earth up a bit.. Big explosions, burning down towns and cities, sinking ships full of oil and chemical toxins.. the list goes on and on.. ..selfish or what..??? That'll take a few less plastic drinking straws to offset.. better start buying in bulk so I can stop using more of 'em... Is it time for a responsible eco-friendly rethinking of how we enjoy gratuitous total carnage and destruction...??? |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: Mossback Date: 02 Jul 19 - 10:25 AM As opposed to, or in addition to, re-thinking gratuitous total carnage and destruction in its own right? |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: punkfolkrocker Date: 02 Jul 19 - 11:45 AM Mossback - too many of us have been rethinking that for far too long, and so far SFA has stopped the war mongers having their fun... So maybe they could at least consider reducing the plastic film packaging in soldier's MRE field rations...??? ..and giving them paper cups to carry their water rations in desert warfare... Like at Glastonbury... |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: punkfolkrocker Date: 02 Jul 19 - 12:44 PM Jack - US Military - destroying the world to keep America safe... When Trump is finished with the wall, will that be a first stage in building a support foundation for a clear plastic bio dome encasing and protecting the whole of North America...??? What fantasy sci fi comic books does he read for inspiration...??? |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jul 19 - 07:13 PM Bloody plastics. I knew that they weren't a great idea for all sorts of things, but then Attenborough came along... For yonks I've bought my summer bedding plants at Morrisons. They've always come in black plastic trays, so then I find out that black plastic is as bad as it gets. So this year Morrisons have moved to a pale green see-through plastic container instead. Haven't a clue as to whether that's supposed to be an advance. Then there's compost bags and unwanted cheap plastic plant pots. All this stuff is thrown in our direction and we are the silly buggers who have to clean up the mess. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: punkfolkrocker Date: 03 Jul 19 - 10:57 AM Got an unexpected, though polite, PM re this thread last night [uk time] A mudcatter who feels his opinions aren't too well appreciated. Obviously I won't betray trust.. I will reiterate I don't like the PM system and prefer communications out in the open forum... However, I do think it is a shame to waste my reply to that PM .. So... ===================================================================== Well I'm sure not many of us want perpetual war and the end of the world.. But no harm having a laugh about the contradictions and absurdity of it all... I was a child who saw "Dr Strangelove" at very impressionable young age... |

Subject: RE: BS: Wars and global warming ? From: Mr Red Date: 06 Jul 19 - 02:54 AM Those who thought war and global warming has only the one connection delineated above should look to Palestine/Israel, Darfur North/South Sudan and probably a host of other skirmishes I haven't analysed in any depth. Why are the Golan Heights still in Israeli hands? And riddled with bored holes in the last 40 years, moving water preferentially towards the Jordan? And just how much water does Darfur have? The bigger the human population, the more critical is the water situation and who has access to it. The more is the motivation to go to war. Human population size is the biggest pollution. And no asymptote in sight. Technology will come to the aid. Yea, it always will, and there is a price to pay. And You won't want to pay it. But the other guy will! He wants what you have. Anyone ever studied the Tragedy of the Commons? PS the situation on Selsley Common (And Rodborough and Minch Commons) is solved with a Hayward - ie a bloke to manage access. Other places like high land in Yorkshire have Courts Leet. But for the planet .................. ????? |
