Subject: Rose of Aranmore From: Keith Reins Date: 31 Dec 99 - 04:16 PM Does anyone have the lyrics for The Rose of Aranmore? I heard it plyed by Beginish (a great band), and it is on their album, but I can't figure out the words. |

Subject: RE: Rose of Aronmore From: Brakn Date: 31 Dec 99 - 07:58 PM I'm sure this has been posted before. My thoughts today, though I'm far away Dwell on Tyrconnel's shore The salt sea air and the colleens fair Of lovely green Gweedore There's a flower there, beyond compare That I'll treasure ever more That grand colleen, in her gown of green She's the Rose of Aranmore I've travelled far 'neath the northern star Since the day I said goodbye And seen many maids in the golden glades Beneath a tropic sky There's a vision in my reverie I always will adore That grand colleen, in her gown of green She's the Rose of Aranmore But soon I will return again To the scenes I loved so well Where many an Irish lad and lass Their tales of love do tell The silvery dunes and the blue lagoons Along the Rosses shore And that grand colleen, in her gown of green She's the Rose of Aranmore Regards Mick Bracken |

Subject: RE: Rose of Aronmore From: Brendy Date: 31 Dec 99 - 10:27 PM Nice one Mick. One of the most enduring memories of my late father, who was never really a man for outward shows of emotion, was how, when looking after some of my sisters' and brothers' kids, he would sooth the crying child by waltzing around the room with the child gently in his arms while singing a few verses of that song. Aranmór I spent quite a lot of time in as a teenager. Gaoith Domháir, Rann na Féirste and Aranmór was where I learned the Irish language, and the place has quite a place in my heart. Happy 2K all. Breandán. I closed this thread in an attempt to avoid splitting the discussion. Please post here (click) or in one of the related threads listed in the crosslinks toward the top of this page.
