Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Backwoodsman Date: 06 Sep 19 - 05:15 PM I agree, Pete, he does seem that way. But sadly, he wasn’t a great leader - he didn’t have that vital spark...charisma...that made voters want to follow him. |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Backwoodsman Date: 06 Sep 19 - 05:07 PM Not exactly lookalike Brothers though, are they. One is tall, handsome, stylish, tonsorially elegant, and moderately-spoken. The other is a fat, ugly, loud-mouthed bloater who never learned the value of a decent haircut. Just as with the Millibands, the wrong brother got the job. |
Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 06 Sep 19 - 04:23 PM well i never knew Boris had an MP brother. Its getting very labyrinthine. Lookalike btothers springing out of the woodwork at the last minute. A bit like an Agatha Christie story. in the Father Brown stories, the lookalike brother is the villain, and when he gets run over by a train - the it stops the wrong man being hanged, The moral universe is set aright. |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Jim Carroll Date: 05 Sep 19 - 12:34 PM "and those who just want to score points and shout" Don't knock it Dave, it can be very revealing if you take the trouble to read the shouts carefully For instance; one of our three Brexiteers feels it necessary to quote an ancient military tactician to show why the people should be kept in the dark over what our Government does This makes sense only if you accept the idea of 'the people' being the enemy, as Tories openly have - Mad Maggie referred to them as "The Enemy Within" The British people have been prevented from knowing the facts of Brexit from day one This is confirmation that Johnson and his yes men and supporters regard themselves as being at war with the people who put them in office - hence the imposed ignorance Statements like that need to be bottled and preserved Jim |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 05 Sep 19 - 11:48 AM Not forgetting BoJo on Gordon Brown It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me. It’s Gordon Brown’s apparent belief that he can just trample on the democratic will of the British people. It’s at moments like this that I think the political world has gone mad, and I am alone in detecting the gigantic fraud. They voted for Tony, and yet they now get Gordon, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. The extraordinary thing is that it looks as though he will now be in 10 Downing Street for three years, and without a mandate from the British people. , His own words from his own column in the Torygraph in 2007. Karma springs to mind once again. |
Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Raggytash Date: 05 Sep 19 - 10:58 AM Johnson on brotherhood. “Only a socialist could do that to his brother, only a socialist could regard familial ties as being so trivial as to shaft his own brother...I mean, unbelievable. Only lefties can think like that...they see people as discrete agents devoid of ties to society or to each other, and that's how Stalin could murder 20 million people." This quote came from Johnson after Ed Milliband had won the leadership of the Labour party from his brother. With thanks to Backwoodsman for the link. |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Jim Carroll Date: 05 Sep 19 - 08:36 AM It will be fascinating to see how the basically right-wing media react to this Was watching the 'rest of the news' and the Beeb's theme appears to be aiming at "we need more young people in politics" Unfortunately Corbyn is showing no sign of 'the shakes' that were used to denigrate Angela Merkel in Germany, so I would guess his age will become a major feature in the next election (any takers on this one!!) The right have been running shitless since he appeared on the scene with his moderately socialist principles - can't have 'equality of opportunity' fouling up the comfort of the better-off Johnson, when he is kicked out, will have been the shortest ever serving Prime Minister - an honour he has truly earned Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Iains Date: 05 Sep 19 - 03:06 AM I have the utmost faith in the backfielder Mr Cummings. As chief strategist nothing has yet happened that could not be predicted by a two year old. The scenario is being painted in 10 foot Fluorescents that parliament is against the people. As it most clearly is by thwarting the clear majority instruction from the people to leave the EU. This theme will be hammered home time and again until the election, because inevitably that will be the dominant theme. The smug responses posted here over the last few days will be turned to ashes. The people will regain their sovereignty and we will leave the EU. With the added bonus that magic grandpa and his pack of fools will be left as but a husk of a party. A win win. |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Jim Carroll Date: 05 Sep 19 - 03:02 AM Steve Britain desperately needs a leadership otherwise it will become a rudderless ship as is Northern Ireland Nobody has the right to withhold the Democratic Process because "our man might not win" - that would open the door to the likes of Robinson, Farage and their scumbags - it was a chaotic situation such as this that led to the rise of German Nazism in the 1930s and the aspirants have Islamophobia as a lever as the Nazis had antisemitism In my opinion, the best (in these circumstances) would be a caretaker government made up of the tree main parties as a stop-gap solution As for leaving Europe - that now has, obviously, to be put again to the people, this time with all the consequences (which these pricks have always had to hand) laid out and a legal block on the use of the prejudice and racism that got it through first time around. If it get's a majority again there is nothing anybody can or should do about it (short of either prayes or revolution, of course). Jim |

Subject: RE: BS: UK General Election????? From: Steve Shaw Date: 04 Sep 19 - 06:25 PM I wouldn't bank on no election before brexit, Jim (I suppose you meant brexit DAY, Oct 31, but you can speak for yourself). The SNP want one as soon as the bill is law, which could be very soon, and Corbyn's inner circle seem to want that as well. Suppose we have an election on Oct 15 and (heaven forfend, but not unlikely) Johnson wins. He then has two weeks to create who knows what mischief. I think any election should wait until after Oct 31, by which time Johnson will have had to ask for an extension (which will certainly be granted) and it's in the gift of opposition parties to delay it until then. Or he may shock us all and resign. I doubt it. That would make the Tories an even bigger basket case than they already are. If Labour won an election, or if, in my opinion more likely, we end up in hung parliament territory, then (and I'm reluctant to say it) a referendum would be the best way out of this morass. |
