Subject: Songs of Ernest Tubb
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 15 Oct 19 - 10:05 PM

I’m starting this thread because I plan to post some lyrics of songs recorded by Ernest Tubb. But first, here are some songs whose lyrics have already been posted. Please note that he didn’t write all these, and his recording wasn’t necessarily even the first or most prominent one:

A DAISY A DAY
A HUNDRED AND SIXTY ACRES
BIG BLUE DIAMONDS
BORN TO LOSE
DO WHAT YOU DO DO WELL
DON'T TRADE YOUR OLD-FASHIONED SWEETHEART (FOR A HONKY-TONK QUEEN)
DRIFTWOOD ON THE RIVER
DRIVING NAILS IN MY COFFIN
FILIPINO BABY
FORT WORTH JAIL
I LOVE YOU BECAUSE
I'LL GET ALONG SOMEHOW
I'LL JUST HAVE ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE (THEN I'LL GO)
I’M WONDERING HOW
MEAN OLD BED BUG BLUES
MISSING IN ACTION
MOM AND DAD'S WALTZ
NO LETTER TODAY
REMEMBER ME (I'M THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU)
SINCE THAT BLACK CAT CROSSED MY PATH
SOLDIER’S LAST LETTER
THE CHICKEN SONG (I AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT SETTIN' DOWN)
THE LAST THOUGHTS OF JIMMIE RODGERS a.k.a. JIMMIE RODGERS' LAST THOUGHTS (MY BLUE BONNET DREAMS)
THE PASSING OF JIMMIE RODGERS
TIGER BY THE TAIL
TILL MY GETUP HAS GOT UP AND GONE
TOMORROW NEVER COMES
TRY ME ONE MORE TIME
WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS
WHEN JIMMIE RODGERS SAID GOOD-BYE
WITH TEARS IN MY EYES

From: Jim Dixon

You can hear this recording at the Internet Archive.

YOU NEARLY LOSE YOUR MIND
As recorded by Ernest Tubb, 1942. (Decca 46125 A, Decca 6067 A)

1. Now, if you love your mama and you treat her right,
But she keeps on fussin’ at you ever’ day an’ night,
CHORUS: Then she’s gon’ trifle on ya; they’ll do it ev’ry time,
And when your baby starts to steppin’, Lord, you nearly lose your min’.

2. Now, if your mama’s mean, take a tip from me:
Lock her up at home, Lord, but hang on to that key,
CHORUS: ‘Cause she’s gon’ trifle on ya….

3. But it your mama’s good, I’ll tell you what to do:
Give her lots of loving, Lord, but watch her closely too,
CHORUS: ‘Cause she’s gon’ trifle on ya….

4. You come home to your mama, find your clothes ain’t clean,
You can bet you’re slippin’ if you get just what I mean,
CHORUS: ‘Cause she’s been triflin’ on ya….

5. Now, you may have a mama who says that she is true,
But wait till you get down an’ out an’ really need her, too,
CHORUS: Then she’s gon’ trifle on ya….

6. Now, I’ve been a lot of places; there’s not much I ain’t done,
But when it comes to women, Lord, I just don’t trust a one
CHORUS: Because they trifle on ya….

Subject: Lyr Add: WALKING THE FLOOR OVER YOU (Ernest Tubb)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 21 Oct 19 - 08:22 PM

You can hear this recording at the Internet Archive:

WALKING THE FLOOR OVER YOU
Words and music by Ernest Tubb
As recorded by Ernest Tubb, 1941. (Decca 5958 A, Decca 46006)

1. You left me and you went away.
You said you’d be back in just a day.
You’ve broken your promise and you left me here alone,
I don’t know why you did, dear, but I do know that you’re gone.

CHORUS: I’m walking the floor over you.
I can’t sleep a wink; that is true.
I’m hoping and I’m praying as my heart breaks right in two,
Walking the floor over you.

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

2. Now, darling, you know I love you well,
Love you more than I can ever tell.
I thought that you wanted me and always would be mine,
But you went and left me here with troubles on my mind. CHORUS

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

3. Now someday you may be lonesome too.
Walking the floor is good for you.
Just keep right on walkin’ and it won’t hurt you to cry.
Remember that I love you and I will the day I die. CHORUS
