Whatever it is I can't wait, my two favorite teams (Nats #1, Astros #2) going at it. Last night's closeout of the Yanks was a first class thriller with the Yanks comeback in the top of the 9th and Altuve's walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.

I wondered if it should called the American World Series but Football/Soccer has its curious names too. We compete for a flag and trophy but they play for the World Jock Strap.

We are about to end the great drought in available baseball games to attend. It starts up tommorow. However dozens of lives have been saved by those who were forced to eat nothing but dippin dots, mystery sausage and 10 dollar cokes not to mention watery beer.
Those die hard baseball fans were forced to make new dietary choices to the Baseball park Nachos and such and are feeling much better now.

The most expensive game tickets are as low as $26,000 for game 7.

The Homestead Grays from that era may be the best baseball team ever assembled, with Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Buck Leonard, et al. I whiled away many happy summer afternoons with my chums at Griffith Stadium watching our lousy old Senators but by that time the Grays were defunct.

It seems I was confusing those war time Grays with the 1933 Pittsburgh Crawfords who had many of the same players, Gibson, Bell, Charleston who were all closer to their prime, plus a young Satchel Paige.

Nats won one that no one thought they would last night. They touched the invincible Gerrit Cole (16-0 w/ an era of .41 since may 22) for 5 runs. A gritty performance by Max Scherzer who pitched himself out of jams numerous times and 20 yr. old Juan Soto had a big night at the plate.

Cole's first defeat in 6 months came in the sweet 5th with some broken bat Nat hits. A sweep would be neat but my best guess is now a mess.

DC is full of tired sleep deprived government workers who are too weary to even notice the antics of the orange one. One can actually see it on the roads and in traffic accidents. Meanwhile there is alot of baseball comraderie with strangers everywhere you go.

Snacks at the park include winner winner turkey dinner (1&1/2 lbs. turkey wing, bisquit etc), bag of chocolate with whole glazed fruit on top (bag made of quality chocolate), Chicken sandwhich with mumbo sauce...
but unfortunetly the ENTIRE region, since raining and following several months of drought, SMELLS like penetrating pungent dog shit.
It is oppresive even at night. The bio decay usually smells like rotton apples but not this year, everyone has noticed it.

They say in DC if you want a friend you better get a dog.
I blame the recent Republican shenanigans.

I'm not making light of the situation up there just taking a dig at the most incompetent and dangerous president in our modern history. I understand there is a "low tide" aroma in the area which becomes stronger as you near the river.

In actuality the river is not bad, even hundreds of dolphin have returned to spawn. There was big die off of oysters from last year but that smell has cleared. I do not know for sure that the DC aroma is a new bacterial biom or that the smell is pure dogshit decay but it sure as shit smells like it.

New water taxis, ride sharing to the game and Metro staying open till 1, will help along with road closures and special expensive parking but there is a bus strike.

A long time friend of mine who kayaks the Potomac in the Chain Bridge down to Georgetown area tells me of mudflats along the river that are not there in years of normal water levels that are giving off a tremendous stench.

At Great Falls the river depth/hieght can vary by 70 feet because of a pinch point. Not all kayakers survive the falls.

Houston deserves not to be swept but even in defeat the Nats looked strong.

What a game last night, for the Nats that is. They did it at the bat, in the field and on the mound. There was plenty of controversy and drama and masterful performances from Strasburg,(a perfect 5-0 with a 1.98 era in this post season) and Rendon (5 rbi's, a homer and a gem in the field). They've got a decent chance in the finale tonight if Mad Max is able to go, and they say he will. I kind of feel for old Verlander, a certain Hall of Famer who's now 0-6 in World Series play.

After the game the manager for the Nats looked embarrassed for telling the ump to go f*uck himself 8 or 9 times. A couple more unwritten rules were broken that made some players wince.

The winner is the guy who did not let go of his beers and let himself get hit in the chest by a homer.
Strausberg was stoicly brilliant.

Both teams deserve to win but baseball ends tonight no matter what.
