I had a larger than usual pizza as it was free with a full loyalty card, and have some leftover. Any suggestions for reheating and making the base crispy again?

Sprinkle with a little water and microwave it for a few seconds may work.

Nah.. don't reheat it.. that's sacrilege..

leave it out overnight and have it cold and limp for breakfast...
That's what pizza was meant for..

Having it baked hot the night before is just a preliminary stage of preparation.
Cold next morning with a glass of alka seltzer is the ideal way to eat pizza...!!!

Actually fried, if you have no toaster-oven.

I have a cast iron frypan, so I use a two step process. I heat the base in the frypan with no oil on a medium heat so that it goes crispy, and when it is hot but not burned I heat it for a minute at a time - usually only about two minutes - on medium setting in the microwave.

Having said that, I don't know why but I like eating cold pizza. And no, pfr, it's not hangover-related. I just like the taste for some reason.

If there are still leftovers I freeze them with the slices laid out in the bags so that I can take as few or as many slices as I need, defrost them gently in the microwave and then do the frypan and then microwave trick.

I know that not everyone can be a cordon bleu cook but .... Bonzo, do you really need help to reheat a take-away pizza?

My dad was absolutely clueless about cooking...

He went from his mother's meals, to the RAF mess,
then married, factory canteen, pub, and chip shops...

I don't think he ever cooked a single meal himself..

Apart from microwave reheating frozen plated dinners
my mum made for him before she went away visiting my sister for a few days...

If you bought it in a supermarket and not in a decent pizzeria, bin it along with any others you may have in your freezer. If it's a cold pizza, bin it whatever. It will be rubberised. Your demeanour will be vastly improved once you start eating proper food.

I do ALL the fucking cooking in our house because my wife is fuckingwell disabled and cannot stand for more than a few minutes without being in a lot of pain. To have takeaway pizza gives me a night off cooking, so how dare you give me "Your demeanour will be vastly improved once you start eating proper food" you arrogant fucking git.

I said IF you bought them in a supermarket. I'm fully aware that decent pizzas are available. You didn't say. Stick to insulting Jo Swinson why don't you.

OK Bonzo!

Helen's suggestion above, using a frying pan followed by a quick blast in the microwave, is probably easiest.

If you have a barbecue grill basket, (the type that clamps the food in place), and the toppings are not too moist or loose, you could crisp the base under a grill, set on high, before flipping it over and heating the top on a moderate setting.

Personally, I don't like pizza with a crisp base, so the microwave would be good enough for me. As a general rule, we only have pizza when the grandchildren are visiting, so there is rarely any left over.

Here's a song for you Hippie Chick!

Cold Pizza For Breakfast

Words and Music by Christine LavinMusic ASCAP & Happy Valley Music BMI Copyright 1986, Palindrome Records, Philo

COLD PIZZA FOR BREAKFAST
(Christine Lavin)

Some people eat grapefruit for breakfast
Some people eat oatmeal
There are those
Who are sure
Granola is a very good deal
But not me

I don't go for that stuff
When it comes to nourishment
I get more than enough
Nothing satisfies my taste
Then sittin' down to a great big plate of

Cold Pizza for Breakfast
Warm Coke to wash it down (Ahhhhh)
Maybe a couple of anchovies
Make this meal well rounded
I want Cold Pizza for Breakfast
And a pinch 'o cold spaghetti will do
But there's nothin' in the world that I like better
than
Eatin' Cold Pizza with you.

My man takes me out for the evening
He treats me so nice
We go to the movies
We go dancing
We go for more than a slice
Yes we order a pie
We eat what we can
We take the rest home
That's part of the plan
And in the morning when sun rise
He sees that crazy look in my eyes

I want Cold Pizza for Breakfast
Warm Coke to wash it down (Ahhhhh)
Maybe a couple of onion rings
Make this world go round
I want Cold Pizza for Breakfast
And a pinch 'o cold spaghetti will do
But there's nothin' in the world that I like better than
Eatin' Cold Pizza with you

Herman Tarnaur would never approve
I can hear him (I can hear him - I can hear him)
Spinning in his grave
He could be alive eating pizza right now
Except for when it came to dating women
The good doctor did not know how to behave
ya ya ya
Herman was healthy
But Herman is dead
(Pizza surely didn't do him in)
A Pizza surely didn't do him in
(Pizza surely didn't do him in)
Jean Harris is behind bars
Lookin' quite sad
And think, do you see what I'm gettin' at
You tend to kill when you're skinny
But not when you're fat

So gimmie Pizza for Breakfast
Warm Coke to wash it down (Ahhhhh)
Maybe a couple of pepperoni
Make this girl well round, ah
Give me Cold Pizza for Breakfast
And a pinch 'o cold spaghetti will do
But there's nothin' in the world that I like better than
Eatin' Cold Pizza with you
Nothin' in the world that I like better than
Eatin' Cold Pizza oh oh oh
Nothin' in the world that I like better than
Eatin'
Cold Pizza
With you.

It's one of Nathan and my favorites!

We make our own pizzas sometimes because we have a breadmaker to make the pizza dough. We don't have salami or pepperoni or any fatty meats on it. We come up with some good topping combinations too, e.g. smoked salmon with sundried tomatoes, capers, capsicum etc on a thin base of sour cream, or my fave has always been ham, capsicum, olives, and onion with a conservative amount of mozzarella on a tomato or pesto base. Pesto is better, IMHO. It still takes a bit of faffing about to get the toppings sorted, especially if we are making more than one type at the same time.

We also go to a cafe sometimes which makes good pizzas. Not top of the range but very good toppings and flavours, e.g. chicken breast with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, onion on a barbecue base.

I don't really understand why pizza is considered unhealthy if you have good fresh toppings and not too much fatty processed meat but I don't go to the franchise pizza places so I'm not really eating those kind.

I think that buying good pizza is a good alternative to having to cook all the time. I can think of worse, less healthy alternatives like deep fried beige food with a few sides of deep fried beige food and a brown fizzy drink or six.

Thanks for the song link Joe.

Good pizza is available. But not from from any British supermarket I've ever come across. Such shop-bought pizzas are junk food. A freshly-made Margherita in a pizzeria or from a takeaway can be a thing of beauty, and I consume them muchly. I'll not eat stringy rubbery stuff whether reheated or eaten cold. Only my opinion, of course!

Personally I almost never find that reheated pizza is
as good as fresh pizza. Except for one unusuallyl good slice
from my local pizzeria -spinach & artichoke pizza.

Otherwise , even though I do reheat; pizza AND baked potatoes
never are as good second time around. Especially potatoes -even worse than day old pizza

EXCEPT for the song by Cheryl wheeler -not to malign Christine Lavin but in this case imho the potato song is much superior to the pizza song. https://youtu.be/5Co4YI_Vsmg

just go to Youtube and search for The Potato Song
by Cheryl Wheeler ( with lyrics)

I swear, sometimes the way the cyber world works leaves
me as cold as a ........well, .......as....a cold potato ??

Take a pre-baked cold potato, preferably at breakfast time the next morning. Cut it in half. Mush the inside a bit with a fork. Sprinkle in a generous amount of strong cheddar, grated. Add a small knob of butter. Mush it all in. Close up the the two halves. Microwave for at least two and a half minutes on high. Maybe more if it's a big spud. Voila. A breakfast that will fortify you until lunchtime. Even better if you can incorporate a bit of accidentally leftover crispy bacon.

If you have no oven go to your nearby pizza place, order a slice and ask for your cold pizza to be heated alongside. Or my personal favorite - go to Hawaii and heat your pizza on the hardened hot crust where lava is only a foot or so beneath your feet. Then go to the beach.

The best pizza in the world is Giordano's.com. You can order online and they will deliver anywhere-frozen or go to Chicago and get it hot.

There is no comparison to Napoli pizza and imaginative deep dish concoctions. Well you could compare them but it would be like a string quartet compared to a symphony ochestra.

at a cafe in Bratislava...

A world full of pleasant surprises...
