It's a detailed description of the 2nd Betty Boop cartoon, 1930. She and Barnacle Bill (and the couch) enact and sing the same words as filename[ BARNBIL2. Of course, early films and cartoons used a lot of folk material - Interesting.

Have any any further knowledge of the actual source?

Wow! What a great link. Jazz, Blues and Betty Boop.

I believe that "Barnacle Bill" was written by Carson Robison, a poplular cowboy singer, whistler, and songwriter of the '30's and '40's. The record I have of Robison doing the song, has him backed by an all-star band with the like s of Benny Goodman and Jack Teagarden. It's avalable on the Stash LP "Laughing in Rhythm, Jazz Humor".

What a fascinating amalgam. Did Walt Disney know that Mickey Mouse unmistakeably appears early on among the crew, in a film made by another studio two years after Mickey had first appeared in his Steamboat Willie (1928)? All sorts of other echoes kept loading my mind down -- like the verse from The Rambling Sailor. "With my false heart and flattering tongue, I'll court them all and marry none, I'll court them all both old and young...".

Just going back to play it again, to see what other references or apparent plagiarisms might appear.
