I'm sitting at home hoping that what I'm feeling is merely exhaustion from another really big weekend:

Thursday: Playing with "The Starboard Watch" at Quinn's Lighthouse (getting a break on this one: the band is on hiatus during January, but will be back at Quinn's the first Thursday of February).

Friday: Not a big night, but paid a New Year's Eve visit to Sally at Herrick rehab center where she's still working on recovering from her bout with encephalitis, then came home to spend the evening with Tomie watching our son's reporting of the total lack of any New Year's Eve excitement in the Bay Area from the San Francisco emergency services center.

Saturday: New Year's Day open house at Dave and Pam Swan's house, ending in another great song circle. I didn't take a camera this time--and neither did anyone else, but the food and the music and the company were all exceptional.

Sunday: Two other Born Once players joined me in "Serenading Sally" at Herrick; in the evening I was delighted to meet Blessings Barbara and husband Mark at the Starry Plough; Pam joined us later. I reiterated my invitation of the Millikans and the Swans to join the Born Once the next evening.

Monday: Back to work but unable to do much since K-8 teachers had much stuff stored in tiny art center. Dinner with Tomie, then Born Once session at Walter and Milly's house, temporary site until Sally is back in her house. Barbara and Mark joined us for our first session in three weeks (we're back to weekly, now). Dave had to work, so he and Pam didn't make it.

Tuesday: Woke up feeling a bit out of it, possibly coming down with something (bad flu going around--not wanting to take any chances), so called in sick--felt good enough in evening to have late Christmas celebration with Tomie and our son John, across the hills in Pleasant Hill.

Today: Still recovering, taking the rest of the week off...

Nice to hear Sally is doing well. Keep away from 'flu' bugs - here in East London UK it has developed into gastric flu - you end up sitting on the bog wrapped in a duvet and cuddling a bucket - all the joys of the squitters AND the aches and pains of flu.....

Seed, I know exactly how you feel. I am still trying to recover from a particularly strenuous week in Bali.

It was SO STRESSFUL. Not only did I have to Swim to the poolside bar to order my beer, They even made me SIGN FOR IT!

To make matters worse, they made me get out of the pool and dry myself before they would give me a massage!

Add to that the fact that no one would move the umbrellas for us to keep the sun off our bodies - WE HAD TO MOVE! - and I think you would agree that the stress was just too much to take.

It came the point where all we could do was raise our ice cold beers (They never even gave us stubby holders)and toast "Here's To Better Times"

Cheers

Bugsy

Would ya slow down Seed. You're making us younger folks dizzy. I hope its not the flu. My husband spent a week in bed with it before Christmas and was miserable and then exhausted.

Aahh, Buggsy, ye poor lad. Who'd inflict soch torture upon soch a nice bloke?

Sophocleese, thanks for your concern--at my advanced age I oughta just restrict meself to me rocker, but there's lasses like Banjo Buddhist Bonnie runnin' around, gettin' me blood pumpin'.

Hi, B.B.B.

Seed, music's the only cure for being old and decrepit. Right now I'm watching poor Heather suffer greatly from the flu/cold. She's lying on the couch like a miserable beached whale (a very slim small whale) while I hope against hope that I don't get it again! She and I send our best to Sally. She's lucky to have you.

Rick

'Seed, I did do one impromptu gig in a pub in Bali on Christmas day, with a guy who couldn't sing and didn't know the words and another guy who played nothing but barred chords with his back turned toward me, and didn't know what key he was playing in. Consequently, I not only had to guess what the key was (singer not necesserily in tune with the guitar, but also had to shout the words to the out of tune singer a half a bar before he sung it! Add to that One microphone and no DI's and I think you have the gig from hell!

Needless to say my efforts were noticed by the assembled throng who eventually insisted that the other two pissed off and left me to it. Unfortunately, with all the shouting and stuff, I only had the voice left to do about 3or4 numbers.

Still a good time was had by all.

Cheers

bugsy

Rick, I'm sure glad you got that parenthesis in there--you'd have found singing rather tough with a duck boot wa-a-ay up your arse. And while music can't make the sun stand still, yet it can make it run...and me: lookout, Bonnie, here I come again...

And Bugster, since the jam was impromptu, I assume the rest of the description of your time there was accurate? We need to have a bit of stress thrown in among so much pleasure, now, don't we? Or we lose all sense of proportion.

I am, only now, recovering from the flu so generously bestowed upon me by Liz ( the Squeak) on New Years Eve. Thank you so very much, Liz !

So Seed are you still alive or what? I'd like to give you my best "Non-Minding Agnostic" Best Wishes except it might trigger a groundswell of goodwill that could be offensive. Ya' know the Gordon Liddy story I used for the analogy? Similar kinda' thing around here.....Just a minor change or two. Hold your ASS over the candle til the flesh burns is more like it. But the trick is still not minding.........much.

So I'll send you nothing and suggest you pack your buns in ice.

Spaw
