The senate voted about changing the NAME of the voting rights bill that the house approved ages ago. But no movement on the bill itself.

I discovered the fun and silly side of John Lewis from Steven Colbert last night. John wrote a graphic novel about his experiences and went to Comic Con leading a chain dance. He body surfed an auduence of the Ed Sullivan Theatre. He was a good dancer at all kinds of gatherings.
He led sit down strikes on the floor of the Senate. Boy was Mitch miffed. My kinda guy.

Atlanta is scrambling to find a candidate to put in his place on the ballot in November. This morning the list of Democratic party individuals who will be involved in the choice reminded me that any of them would also be good in the job. They had to know this day was coming, he announced his illness many months ago. This will give MSNBC something new to focus on for a while - it has been all-COVID-19-all-the-time, with the break for the George Floyd death and riots. What a long hot summer we're in this year.

I have seen John Lewis receive a skull fractuing blow. I have seen John Lewis spat upon by a tea party protester. In the spitting incident a search will reveal only denial videos by Barbara Bachman, Brieetcart and conservative sites. This raises flags that either Lewis supporters have exponged the video for the sake of the Lewis legacy or conservatives made the video disappear. History can be rewritten in many ways. All I can say is I saw it.

As for gun violence John Lewis began a sit down proteest in Congress much to the displeasure of Republicans. Lwis was a progressive in all matters and not just race.

Regarding the missing spitting video, Lewis became mad as a hornet. Something you rarely saw.

I think it's safe to say that these six men changed our lives and changed our country here in Australia as well, but we also still have a long way to go.

Lewis was the last of the Big Six Civil Rights leaders: Martin Luther King Jr., James Farmer, John Lewis, A. Philip Randolph, Roy Wilkins and Whitney Young

"I heard of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr and a few years later I met her in 1957, and Dr King in 1958.

"Meeting them, getting involved in the civil rights movement inspired me to find a way to 'get in the way', what we call today 'good trouble, necessary trouble'.

"We would talk about the way of peace and non-violence. White and black students sitting at a lunch counter together and getting arrested.

"Sometimes we would be beaten, people would spit on us."

Once he went to jail with 88 other people. It was his first time being arrested.

"Not for fighting or staying out of school, but trying to change America. The longest time I stayed in jail was 40 days," Mr Lewis said.

We have just lost one of our civil rights icons, John Lewis, who spent a long life on various fronts of leadership in the battle for civil rights when it was far more dangerous than it is today. And also years of public service.
This man was a worker both on the scene and behind the scenes. He took wounds and was a man of both words and deeds.
Flags at half staff across America today.
