Fires of millions of acres may not leave soil traces as big as one might expect but explain what happened to some lost ancient civilizations.

I was surprised that O2 levels were lower in the Dinosaur ages.
Large lung capacities may have been an adaptation. Tibetan sherpas are said to have Denosovian DNA who had enormous lung capacites as well.

goats eh. Athens used to be shaded by great oaks, pines of Rome, Lebanon etc.    Reforesting is a subject of its own. Diversity may be key.

It's a tipping point alright. All that release of CO₂ is only accelerating global warming, that will cause more fires that will release more CO₂ which will .............. only accelerating global warming ...............

Curiously there are French goatherds that will tell you, the best management of their forest was to allow goats to graze. They kept the detritus low by eating it to a height of 3 metres before it fell, dried out and left fuel lying round.

Now call me simplistic but wouldn't that help solve two problems, unemployment and reduce forest fires? And keep a few people socially distant, every little helps. And provide milk and meat!

When Oz caught fire it sounded awful for people and all the animals.
The US has big fires but I've heard no mention of the wild life.
Siberia, who cares, but the Amazon seems most irreplaceable of all.
I imagine this bodes poorly for more global warming now and into the future. It is possible that the smoke drifting 3,000 miles away is like a last warning or an insurmountable final tipping point.

Well it happened before but in slow motion. The Artic was like Ecuador today. Off the top of my head back in the early Pleistocene?

It seems more obvious what probably happened to most of the lost civiliations. They burned in a hurry? We know how to adapt but we will probably be behind the trend. Like always 'the times they are a changin'
