Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Big Mick From: Big Mick Date: 14 Jan 00 - 12:17 AM Once again, thanks to all. You really made my day. I am using this thread instead of starting a new on to let you know that I am well, but incredibly busy. You old timers know how it gets with me. I am working on an organizing program of about 1600 people, as well as directing a major political campaign in the State of Michigan. Getting labor people to execute a plan is tough enough. But dealing with all the disparate interests that make up the progressive community in one room and trying to direct strategy, well, the old Big Mick is ready to go off. And that isn't a pretty sight. But the stakes are high for working folks, so perserverance is the order of the day. But when I am done, I am going to be looking for a place to jam. I can't wait for the board meeting of Fielding, Swan, Lane and Patterson to occur.......it will be a ball. If I can still remember how to make the Fielding approved "G" chord, that is. I will be scanning the threads (Hey Moonie and Beebs, notice I didn't say "lurking"?????) and posting the occasional post, so don't worry. I am keeping an eye on you. Love to all, Big Mick |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Big Mick From: northfolk/al cholger Date: 11 Jan 00 - 04:11 PM Big Mick, A belated b'day gift to you. A few days before you need a rally to support the election at Kessel's, give me a call...I'll arouse whoever I can from the Workers justice Committee, (newspaper workers) Bernie's brigade, Jobs with Justice,Labor Party, et al, and we'll add a little Detroit style charm to these workers brave fight. For you folks outside of Michigan, this business is owned by a slob who has fattened for years on the misery of his workforce...for those who understand..."We're with each other"!!! |

Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Big Mick From: Big Mick Date: 11 Jan 00 - 12:02 AM It is almost midnight, I just managed to sneak home to get about 4 to 5 hours sleep in my own bed for one night at least, my workload(due to a meeting tonight) has just doubled, and I am frazzled. So I go up to the office to check in for the first time since I have been on the road..........and PRESTO, you have made me feel wonderful..........I hope you all realize how very important to me you are. A few hours ago, I was in the home of a 19 year old woman. She has a 2 year old baby, and a set twins one year old. Her boyfriend, and the twins father, is in prison. She supports herself and her children as a cashier in a non-union grocery store in Flint, Michigan. This man she works for is notorious for firing Union supporters. She makes $6.15/hr, has no health insurance, no vacation, no pension, works 35 hours or more every week but is still classified part time.......you know the story. To say she needs her job desperately is the understatement of the millenium so far. Yet this young woman, who has so much to lose given the state of labor law in this country, stepped up, signed a card and is working to help get the union in. Her courage simply floors me. While we were talking, she lamented that there are so many uncaring people in the world. I told her that the world is full of people that care, people who want to make it a better place for her kids. Then I started to tell her about all of you. Don't be surprised if she shows up here.....but she will have to do it from the library.....can't afford a 'puter. I love you all. It is that simple. Thanks. Big Mick |
