Subject: BS: After the Storm (Pandemic) is Over...

Something on NPR this morning triggered a thought. The thought was to ponder what I would do once it was deemed safe by the proper authorities to freely go out and about without worry. The thought is relatively new, since it is only about 6 weeks since the US has had adult leadership (at least in Washington, DC), and these things take time.

Someone in that trigger piece said something about it not being a sudden event like allee-allee-in-free, but more like a slow but steady process. So I started to think about my plans for when it happens. You know, something to look forward to.

So far, I'm thinking that first and foremost, I will get together with my close-in people for coffee or beer. Then, I'll map out some music events to go to. And eating out or having friends and family over to eat.

Anyone else having some thoughts? Or is it too premature?

Saul

From Manchester, visiting my family once a year in Australia, a holiday in Europe once or twice a year, and local sites on weekends; &, at some stage, a trip through Asia, and one through America (with my bridge camera)...

While there are unanswered questions regarding the future evolution of Covid 19 and other variants Saul, I expect most people to accept the future as they did the past having a 'normal' flu risk in day to day life. What will be different is that conspiracy theories will be held by experts more than the unwashed public. This is in regards to the evidence that weaponizing the common cold has many simiarities to what has happended already in this pandemic. A perspicacious person like yourself may agree and accept that it is water over the dam. It could have been worse and still may be worse if the old saying that there is no cure for the common cold is true.
On the hopehul side the rna progress we have made as a result of the pandemic may make flu vaccine far more effective than it has ever been.

npr plays constantly at home. They too cowered during the last 4 years mo.

Once waiting lists are under control, it may have to involve having my other hip done. Not something I am looking forward to.

I’m thinking of a road trip to look in on friends and relations. I would have to travel alone, since my husband died last October, but I think I could do a tour of two to three weeks ranging from Windsor, Ontario, to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

But first I have to bury my husband’s ashes at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa. We have a plot and everything. It will be a big job, as he had dozens and dozens of friends who were not allowed to come to the funeral mass, as well as a substantial kin-group, so that will probably take all the social energy I can spare this year.

I would also like to go to the Getaway again. Oh, how I would love to go to the Getaway.

Alas, I also have a couple of funerals to attend once they are finally scheduled.

My daughter and I have both been vaccinated and though we are still very careful (we meet outdoors to eat our takeout lunches) last week we exchanged a wonderful long huge hug. It felt so good, and it was hard to tell who was going to stop squeezing first. We were wearing masks at the time, but felt that since we were both a couple of weeks past our last shots, we'd be safe. There are many other people to hug who aren't there yet, though.

Charmion, I still have my mum's ashes - she also died in October - but we're not allowed to travel to where she wanted them put (in a family grave in the north of England, 300 miles away). When my mum was in a home close to us we always went along to their sing-songs (until last March) and we got quite chummy with the other residents. Two of our favourites have now died and we never got the opportunity to see them again. It's all so sad, isn't it. Just normal times again will do for me.

CRISPR gene editing has led to new vaccines, home virus tests and a Nobel prize for the woman that used CRISPR to use gene editing against the pandemic. These events will probably change the science of the 21st century to focus on the life changing bio sciences of the human race.

Like Charmion, I would also like to make it to another Getaway (42 consecutive so far)...especially IF Charmion can be there. She and Edmund were such good friends and knew so many songs.
I do look forward to the holidays with my son & his wife again. We just couldn't justify it last Fall. (They have dropped by...masked.. several times in the last year, but we will wait till all 4 of us are vaccinated... )
