Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Big Al Whittle Date: 12 Jun 21 - 09:57 PM My friend Una Walsh, from the duo No Fixed Abode - coming as she does from County Louth has discovered she is Joe Biden's cousin. So I wrote this song about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=941egf2WPXI |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: The Sandman Date: 13 Jun 21 - 01:37 AM Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Stilly River Sage - PM Date: 12 Jun 21 - 12:56 PM The coverage has returned to "normal," it isn't a bunch of reporters and pundits waiting to see what stupid thing Trump is going to do next. People seem to be delighted with the generous natures of all participants. Without Trump and Putin they might actually accomplish something this is what they will accomplish, that the haves continue having and the have nots continue having not. I i can remember people getting excited because obama was elected.... , what did we get a black puppet instead of a pink one I tried to make the part he was attempting to quote look a little clearer. -mod |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 13 Jun 21 - 05:24 AM Try again re only "The U.N. are a toothless organisation that are subject to the whims of the nations with the power of veto" (Dave). Don't the other "clubs" (EU, ASEAN, etc.), mentioned above have issues with veto to contend with? |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Jun 21 - 06:18 AM They may well do but we are talking about the G7 conference here where things get done by agreement. It's you that keeps bringing up the U.N. Do you have anything to add about the topic in question or are you just going to continue with your favourite subjects until the thread gets closed? |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 13 Jun 21 - 06:24 AM You are misunderstanding, Dave - if someone proposes an alternative to holding G7s, (in my case, focusing on improving the U.N.) it IS relevant to this thread you have started, and you should not take offence at such debate. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Jun 21 - 12:23 PM Still trying to change the subject, I see. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Jun 21 - 02:13 PM You are pissing in the wind talking about U.N. change. How many times must I repeat that it has been failing for 75 years. Only a fool expects to get different results by doing the same thing over and over again. I am not a fool so I shall not mention it again. How about you trying the same? |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Steve Shaw Date: 14 Jun 21 - 05:14 AM I shall risk being shot down for "mentioning it," but I think it's worth pointing out that the US consistently undermines the UN by failing to pay its dues (we're talking many hundreds of millions of dollars) and, of course, by routinely using its veto to prevent any criticism, no matter how well-deserved, of the Israeli regime. The UN is never going to be amazing, but these things don't exactly help, and I think there's something very deliberate about these US actions. Its form apropos of foreign policy over many decades, and its constant undermining of the UN, strongly suggests a desire to be the world's policeman... |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Donuel Date: 14 Jun 21 - 06:43 AM Its a fair obsevation but while change is slow Biden has only had 4 months to correct obvious malfeasence. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: The Sandman Date: 14 Jun 21 - 07:46 AM pissin in the wind, just pissin in the wind What a glorious feeling I'm in the loony bin I'm laughing at clouds so dark above The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place Come on with the wind, I've a smile on my chin I'll walk down the road with a lightened load And pissin just pissing in the wind Why am I smilin' and why do I sing. |

Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jun 21 - 10:24 AM Good news, Dick! The G7 is over so now you can start whinging about NATO. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: The Sandman Date: 14 Jun 21 - 04:45 PM i am not interested in NATO |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jun 21 - 07:29 PM You should be, but anyway, GOOD. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: The Sandman Date: 16 Jun 21 - 12:26 PM Why Should I be, do I have to have the same opinions as you. Dave says it is toothless, you think i should be interested, WAV has different views again ,so what,GOOD |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Donuel Date: 16 Jun 21 - 01:07 PM The G-7 was familiar to anyone who have had too many meetings in that: "we agreed to have a constructive meeting to agree to have a meeting with ambassadors next time. -just not in Moscow or Washington". The press conferences however are more revealing than what is said and not said. |
Subject: RE: BS: G7 Summit From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Jun 21 - 02:45 PM There are few countries hitting the target of 2% of GDP to support NATO. The list is Here UK makes the list, and France get in by the skin of their teeth. No other major EU nation (except Greece, and, marginally, France) makes the grade! (Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland do!) |
