Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: Áine Date: 13 Jan 00 - 04:48 PM A Lorcan, a stór, I agree with kat, that is a great picture. But, I was surprised that you used the translation of 'Sara' from Sorcha, instead of using the translation of 'brightness and/or light'. That would go so well with your black & white graphic -- and people would think you were 'oh so deep' ;-) . . . Ádh mór ort féin agus ar do ghrúpa! -- Áine |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 13 Jan 00 - 05:33 PM Maybe you could get the horse to play the bodhran as well as being the roadie? |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: InOBU Date: 13 Jan 00 - 05:34 PM Aine: Absoultly! Sorcha Dorcha is the patron saint of Pavees (travellers) and the name is as you say, about a being who is both of light and darkness, in fact, she is the Irish equvilent to the European Roma Kali Maria, who is Dark Mary - both the Virgin Mary and a darker side, because she embodies the concept we brought out of India 1,000 years ago, that being a saint who embodies Siva, goddess of decay and destruction and Ganesh, the god of creation. In English she is sometimes, Saint Sarah, and thus, Dark Sarah, or Sarah of Darkness. If you cant commute from Texas, I will have to have a word with the Harse... Slan Lor |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: InOBU Date: 13 Jan 00 - 05:47 PM A Spaw, old pal! By that do you mean the Harse should ride, and I pull the Voodron (wagon)? Larry |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: Mbo Date: 13 Jan 00 - 05:58 PM WHOA! LARRY! YES! The page RULES! As a graphic design major, I can truly say your website shows impeccable design and superb artistic taste. Is that you driving with pipes on your knee? So your real name is Lorcan. I think I like that more than Larry! I've read about lots of heroes in Irish history with that name. It makes you sound so great and masterful! I'm telling you, Larry, I'm gonna come up to New York one of these days and play with your band! One day! --Mbo |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: InOBU Date: 13 Jan 00 - 06:05 PM Ah Mbo, That is me indeed, Horse and Voodron not included, however. I did hang about with Pavees in the last horse drawn days in Ireland, and miss those days as much as the photo insinuates. I went so far as to put a down payment on a wagon undercarrige in Canada, but I could not find a place to build it. Some day!!! Building a voodron is not much different than building an Irish currach (what I did before law school). Larry |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: katlaughing Date: 13 Jan 00 - 06:15 PM Larry/Lor, there are plenty of old sheepwagons out here need rebuilding; want me to ship one out to ya? Same basic shape. And, my daughter's horse/pony (much like the sturdy one who's in your band), in Colorado, at the remarkable age of 34, can still pull a wagon, so maybe we could meet in the middle, say....at Spaw's!?? Seriously, do let us know when a CD or tape becomes available, please?! katlaughing |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: Micca Date: 13 Jan 00 - 06:27 PM InOBU, this Dark Sara sounds more like The Morrigan, cf Book of Invasions, "Battle of Mag Tuiradh" and cf also Tain Bo Cualigne " Death of Cuchulain" I always felt She has a lot in common with Siva. BTW love the pic and artwork, you have set yourselves a high standard. All the best. Micca |

Subject: RE: InOBUs Band... From: InOBU Date: 13 Jan 00 - 06:27 PM Dear kat: I will let folks know when CD and tapes are available, and we will have a good quality concert tape available informally soon, first. The undercarridge for a voodron should be a light waggon, but at least big enough to justify a fifth wheel. I will ask my friend Mari Ferrel - the curator of wagons at the Stoney Brook musiums, how best to describe it... lighter than many farm wagons... sort of like the milk delivery wagons ... Mari also raises draugh horses, and each kind of wagon takes a different breed. About the fellow in the forground. I have spent a lot of time with the horses, and I still am not sure which end with which one speaks. All the best Larry ( or Lor) |
