So got a call from the hotel I am going to for my beach week, asking would I be terribly inconvenienced if something called Florida Man, being produced by Jason Bateman whom I adore, has its shark attack scene with Jennifer Anniston [meh] filmed at my hotel while I am there, and do I want to be an extra?

Just so you know that "Florida Man" is liable to spoil your vacation if you come into actual contact with him. :-) Have fun!

I bet people would pay good money to see Jennifer Aniston become fish food.

Shark attack scene?!! I'd stay well in the background if I were you! Not sure I'd want that filmed at my beach-hotel ... you know, if I had one. OTOH, they do say that any publicity is good publicity ... !

Forget about the shark, watch out for Governor DuhSantis, aka trump-lite.

Is the beach an important part of your vacation? I would want to know how long these people are taking it over. Then multiply by 150%.

I suspect "Do you want to be an extra?" was said mostly to keep you from re-scheduling your vacation. The DH recently met a man who was an extra in a Hollywood movie, and he took a week off work, waited for days to be selected, and has an Equity card.

The Florida Man might run a different deal, of course.

Hmmm. They didn't tell me I'd need a covid test and the closest is an hour away and takes 2 days for results. Merde alors.

They had covid tests. I have been Passed By Wardrobe and will be playing a background hotel guest. Method, right?

Yesterday I was watching an episode of Pointless, a UK quiz show, and one of the contestants told a quick story about being at an event, noticing cameras there, but not realising until he saw the movie that his face was shown in close-up. He was in the cinema yelling out, "that's me!", so that will be you when you see your moment on the big screen.

The man my husband saw himself passed over for younger people all week, then to his surprise got selected to be filmed AND he was to carry a folded newspaper. They were very precise about exactly how he should carry it, so apparently it was a vital folded newspaper, and they needed an experienced folded-newspaper carrier with a certain je nais se quois. (if that's how you spell that).

Congratulations on making the big time, Mrrzy.

So, 14 hours in Holding, no adfitional role. But I have a new respect for the *work* involved in acting. Not to mention the crew.

Gaffers, dollies and grips, oh my!

This is where I was reading when Mudcat crashed yesterday. Before I was interrupted,

I'm not finding a Florida Man and Anniston in the same listing on IMDb. I do find seven episodes of Florida Man - can you tell us if this is the program and which episode? (It looks like 2 have aired so far?)

Well two of my tracks are on Spotify. They have been for years but I only found out about it yesterday. The bugger that put them up there didn't credit me!

And I have a friend who's chatted with Buzz Aldrin. You heard me. Buzz bloody Aldrin.

And my kid sister was in Happy Valley.

So there!

I spoke to Audrey Roberts from Coronation Street in Sainsburys, Salford. Does that count?

I thought she was better as Nadia Popov

No Anniston. I was misinformed (said like Humphrey Bogart, in Casablanca, of course).

Red carpets accepted!

My claim to fame was when were were doing a set at the Newcastle shanty festival back in the 80s, Tim Healy was sitting in the front row of the audience.

My dad, 40 years at Burtons, measured the inside legs of Stan Ogden and Peter Noone, and I once went to dinner with Thora Hird. Follow THAT!

There was a movie made out at Ellis Island the year I supervised the interpretive staff. The National Park Service had limited power running lights along the tour route and the tours were restricted, all guided, with wooden barriers placed to keep people out of the deteriorating parts of the buildings (closed in 1954, reopened in the mid-1970s, with no other repairs made yet.) Invariably people would ask why they couldn't wander around; on humid days we would be talking in the Great Hall with our words about the safety of the island punctuated by loud thuds of plaster falling in closed parts of the building.

The film crew had to use generators and disregarded our tour requirements, frequently laying dangerous lines across the areas where we walked, they moved barriers, etc. I complained several times, calling the head ranger to remind them about what they agreed to, asking that they be confined to working on their stuff after tours passed through the areas. We had a lot of elderly visitors (former immigrants visiting with their families to see the island) and many were barely ambulatory. Injuries meant calling the Coast Guard or the Army Corps of Engineers to bring out a boat to transport to a hospital if one of the park boats wasn't right there. Hazards were the last thing we needed for a couple of weeks of filming, so a power struggle ensued.

Despite their flippant approach, it was an interesting project - the writer/director was Meredith Monk (later of The Big Lebowski fame, composing the music.) They had people in period costumes posed in rooms around the island, filming them like black and white stills, then they started moving and I think it then shifted to color. I don't remember a plot, just impressions. They filmed in 1979 but it wasn't released until 1982. Ellis Island

I saw the film several years later and burst out laughing - they had built in a few modern segments, including a couple with a very stern woman in a faux-uniform and tall hat walking through with a few people behind her. Touché!

I met Ernest Borgnine in Budapest as a teenager. I was the teen. He was nice.

My sister met Whoopi Goldberg at a train station, decades ago. Whoopi was snotty. That sister was an extra in Noble House, you can hear her calling Lilian! in the landslide scene, but she never showed on film.

I was reading the Saturday local paper this week and said to my Hubby, "That's me!", on seeing a group of women in a grainy photo from the 1975 International Women's Day March in Sydney.

Hubby was bemused but not really impressed. The photo I showed him related to an article on a recently published book, and I also showed Hubby a similar photo from the same day in another book I own. The photo in the paper was so grainy, and it was from 50 years ago, so I doubt whether anyone else would have recognised me in it.

I don't have a TV or go to the movies, I'm just not a watcher, I've even been known to book a band for my folk club without looking at their videos! Bands well recommended or known to me I hasten to add, I ask performer friends about unknown acts.

Back in the 90s one of my friends included a well known actor, of course I had to be told! He was a lovely bloke & one day bought a mate, Tony, to the coffee shop for breakfast, we all said "Gidday, Tony" - everyone else is going "That's Sir Anthony Hopkins!!!!!" Tony was a friendly bloke & fitted in well with us, he was making a movie in Sydney & mentioned missing his family. (ps. no-one mentioned anything about his career)

In recent years I mentioned this brush with fame to cluey friends & was informed what movie he was working on - Mission Impossible.

Lady Hillary and I both work as backgrounders on various movie and TV productions. We both have been visible in quite a few. The big money, however, goes to our 1981 Toyota Celica GT. It appeared in every episode of The Americans and many episodes of Gotham, as well as numerous other productions. Any time they hire the car, they also have to hire one of us.
As far as COVID testing, I would rather get a paid test in order to minimize the risk of exposure on the job.
I was at a union meeting last week and four of the attendees have since tested positive. Not good. I only hope that at least one of the four is someone who protested being forced to mask as a condition of attending previous meetings.
