Subject: BS: Enemy of the People Ibsen
From: The Sandman
Date: 31 Dec 21 - 04:13 AM

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09yckvk Henrik Ibsen
Dr Stockmann has discovered the town's spa-baths are contaminated. How will this affect local business interests? Will Stockmann be publicly vilified?

Will campaigning courage turn into self-righteous fanaticism? Vested interest lives on and this timeless 1882 drama is as up to date now as when it was first performed.

Henrik Ibsen's dynamic thriller starring Alfred Molina, Adam Godley, Susannah Fielding, Ian Ogilvy and James Callis.

Dramatised by Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

There are a lot of threads that start and have a few posts then are over that all have at their core an offering on BBC4. I'm changing the title on Dick's thread to see if that is enough to bring eyeballs - and then post new programs to this thread and have a real history of the good stuff they play. (Thread names can be changed easily, so it can go back, but from here it appears that the common denominator to these great programs is where they display - on BBC4)

Sandman provided a link to a radio programme which is on BBC Radio 4.

BBC4 is a TV station, which does have some interesting programmes.

Just pointing it out in order to avoid any confusion.

Well, I don't know about anybody else, but I would be less likely to read a new post to a thread with this new title.

I read the OP because it had the name of the play in it. And under its old title I would know that subsequent posts are about that programme.

I have an APP for world radio on my Android type phone. This enables me to play many BBC radio online channels. So I am an avid follower of BBC World Service and BBC radio 4 EXTRA. I pay attention to any Mudcat alerts to BBC works above or below the line.

I don't generally listen to radio versions of plays. I've seen Ibsen on stage - most recently The Master Builder at the Old Vic, with a memorable performance by Ralph Fiennes. I can't imagine that on the radio - though it was in fact broadcast by the BBC back in August.

I haven't seen Enemy of the People. There was an performance put on in Nottingham with a female Dr Stockmann. This review makes some interesting points about its modern relevance:

I hope they revive it in London.

I haven't been to the theatre since the pandemic. It's the thing I miss most - more than live music.

I see a couple of BBC threads running above the line, some with way more posts. And the difference between the radio and TV stations with the same name (BBC4) are bound to continue to cause problems for those of us across the pond who don't see or hear either. Maybe you can sort it out with an appropriate title, but the point was to call attention to interesting programs as they appear on the same venues and not necessarily start a new thread for every one (unless it's the type of program that is going to generate a lot of discussion by itself).

Quite easy really, if it's a BBC radio station it will have "radio" as part of the name, whereas BBC TV stations will not!!

If there was a vote I'd title this something like
BBC Radio - non-music programmes

and have a separate thread for BBC TV & other UK TV channels.
