Subject: Messiah Lullaby - phonetic Jewish verse From: GUEST,JB3 Date: 14 Dec 20 - 03:01 PM I love the song, "Messiah Lullaby," recorded by the Isaacs. Does anyone have the Jewish words, presented phonetically? (I don't read Hebrew!) Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Messiah Lullaby - phonetic Jewish verse From: GerryM Date: 14 Dec 20 - 11:03 PM I see all these lyrics sites that copy from one another, and they say there's one chorus in Hebrew but they don't know how it goes. It's not Hebrew, it's probably Yiddish, maybe German, I can't hear it clearly enough on my laptop to distinguish. |

Subject: Messiah Lullaby From: GUEST,JB3 Date: 28 Jan 22 - 10:14 PM I love the Isaac's "Messiah Lullaby" but have no knowledge of Hebrew. (The song is in English except for a verse in the middle of the song, with a different tune; I assume it's Mary singing to the Baby Jesus, in Hebrew.) Is anyone, conversant with Hebrew, willing to write out the verse phonetically? Thank you! |

Subject: ADD: Messiah Lullaby (from the Isaacs) From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Jan 22 - 10:52 PM Here is my correction of the lyrics from above, after I listened to the recording by The Isaacs. Note that the lullaby is in Yiddish, not Hebrew. I can't hear it well enough to transcribe it, but it's something like "Zay ruh, shlof mayn kind." (be still, sleep my child) MESSIAH LULLABY (as recorded by The Isaacs) Softly she whispered I've been expecting you And not only me But the whole world's been waiting, too The only hope For fallen men Is there in your tiny hands Close your eyes Prince of Peace She sang the Messiah Lullaby Messiah Lullaby Welcoming the New Born King Messiah Lullaby Angels in Heaven Silently watched over earth Adoring the sight Of the one who had given them birth Creation longed to sing back to Him The song He had given them But on this night All was quiet She sang the Messiah Lullaby Messiah Lullaby Welcoming the New Born King Messiah Lullaby [part below needs correction] Chorus again... a cappella Zay denn ruh, shlaf mayn Kind Zay denn ruh, shlaf gesind (healthy) Zay denn ruh, xxxkeit Mamme is hier bevor |

Subject: RE: Lyr Messiah Lullaby (from the Isaacs)-need yiddish From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Jan 22 - 12:47 AM Can anybody help with the Yiddish? It's easy enough to understand. More-or-less, it means, "Sleep my child, be still, mama is here." But I was hoping for exact Yiddish words, and that is beyond me. -Joe- |
