No idea how the Platinum Pageant has gone this afternoon as I've been watching the Roland Garros final, but my stance on multiculturalism, having majored in anthropology, could not be more simple, SRS - it's our world/our United Nations that should be multicultural and England should be a lot more English.

Not a lot happening up here north of the border. City of Edinburgh Council did publish a list of street closures for street parties: only about 10 in the whole metropolis of “greater Edinburgh”. There’s a free concert on in Princes St Gardens this afternoon, but this was only announced earlier in this last week.
We were out celebrating on Friday night, but this was the 50th anniversary of our local rugby club: should have been in 2020, but twice postponed because of Covid. The church minister who said grace before the meal did conclude with “God save the Queen”.
As for last night, we didn’t survive long at the Jubilee concert. Soon switched over to other channels, mainly BBC ALBA, where you could watch in black-and-white! Fyfe Robertson (remember him?) doing a documentary on a visit to the Western Isles: whisky galore an a’ that!

I haven't watched any of these celebrations. If others enjoy it, that's fine by me, but I have been off visiting family , on walks, etc etc etc.

Because my son lives around 4 hours drive away, I have travelled through a fair few towns and villages in the past week and have been struck by how little sign there is of anything happening. You see little knots of houses where five or six together are festooned in flags and bunting, then great stretches of nothing at all. Anecdotally, there seems to be more in shops than private houses. We drove through one village where it seems the (parish?) council had decided a celebration was needed and there was a large flag on every other lamp post - quite literally - but that was very much the exception.

By comparison, when England was in the world cup recently, I would say there were far more individual houses decorated. Still not a majority, but more than 20% I would estimate. Currently, it seems to be in the 1% region based on my travels.

Lots of British have copied American pop, BW. I've heard the Rolling Stones mention their musical heroes and they were all Americans. And Paul McCartney, for another example, would not deny that the Beatles were very good at copying an aspect of American culture - he would just say something like "It's a cool thing to do, Man".

I think it's a bit mean to put on a big concert as a sort of present for a lady aged 96 and load it with material and performances she's pretty certain to dislike.

I have avoided it myself, and I'm sure that would have been her preference.

I suspect one of the biggest downsides of beingm Royals must be these kind of events.

I would just like to see the monarchy wound down to where the Royals still have some regalia to wear when they're on display, and some glad-rags for when they cut the ribbons at the opening of laundromats, etc., and appropriate 'security', but, beyond that, something much closer to the lifestyles of. let's say, the middle-class.

I'm afraid the Queen is the last Royal I'll be willing to curtsey to.
