Subject: BS: Memorial Day 2022 (USA) From: keberoxu Date: 29 May 22 - 08:46 PM The Mudcat has had memorial day threads, but not recently -- so it's time for a fresh one. Where I am living at the moment, we are all wearing facemasks in common areas, getting weekly COVID-19 testing, and grateful to be alive. Sincere good wishes to everyone who is here to celebrate the occasion, never forgetting those without whom we observe the day this year. |

Subject: RE: BS: Memorial Day 2022 (USA) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 May 22 - 11:14 PM This year Memorial Day is a muddle. As it should be after 19 children and 2 teachers were shot. And last week, 10 in a Chicago grocery store. And counting backward. Sanctimonious celebrations of the lives of service members lost (sad, but people who knew the risk when joining) while they won't do anything about the slaughter of civilians. Of children. This weekend Joe and Jill Biden laid a wreath at the school in Uvalde. That's plenty for this Memorial Day; no need to also visit Arlington Cemetery. The GOP and the NRA don't give a flying fuck about the consequences of all of the guns they've loosed in the country. They they'll salute the hardest and wave the flags tomorrow for some vision of America I find appalling. |
