Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: Mr Red Date: 25 Jun 22 - 06:45 AM Hey Skarpi - if you are experiencing Long COVID - I saw a video on the subject which drew parallels with ME/CFS (long Epstein Barr if you will, aka Glandular fever). What I took from it (not needing it for COVID) is that vitamin D helps, anti-histamines can help, and.... I never suffered from hay fever till a year after a pretty serious 'flu and a post viral syndrome, the docs (plural) knew it had been a virus (I told them that) but couldn't tell me which - 30 years ago. The video, below, did go into detail about why they think anti-histamines improve the situation, and listed Diphenhydramine and Hydroxyzine (anti-histamines) as two to have been studied. But it is all a question of luck and how effective. We are all different. However vitD is safe enough for the small improvement it might give. Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: MudGuard Date: 26 Jun 22 - 06:01 PM Get well soon, Skarpi. Drink some brennivin to kill the viruses ;-) Greetings from Munich, Andreas a/k/a MudGuard |
Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: Donuel Date: 26 Jun 22 - 06:13 PM Mr. Red a lifetime ago I had a bad reaction to a flu vaccine that caused an Epstien Barr syndrome. I don't know about the connection but Barr syndromes are no joke. Fellow mudcatters are 'prescribing' things that are new to me. I'm sticking with antivirals within 5 days after the fact. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: keberoxu Date: 30 Jun 22 - 08:08 AM Brennivin is not a prescription, it's an inside joke! I'm not Icelandic and even I know that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 30 Jun 22 - 09:17 AM Before we visited Iceland we saw in the guidebook to avoid the fermented shark and brennevin. One small museum we visited offered us both. I may have been the only taker (I'll try anything once). I don't think I'd willingly choose the fermented shark again but I can well believe no virus would stand up to brennevin! Get well soon, Skarpi. RtS |
Subject: RE: BS: Get Well Soon, Skarpi From: Lighter Date: 30 Jun 22 - 09:51 AM Mmmmmmm! Hakarl! (Cured shark.) Tastes exactly like freshly used cat litter. You have to chase it with a slug of schnapps if you want to keep living. We loved Iceland. |
