Major news outlets such as national papers and TV channels will always focus more on "bad" news, as bad-news stories are usually more shocking and sensational, much better for selling copy and grabbing attention. Major good-news stories can often be trivial stuff such as what celebrities or the royals are getting up to. Stuff that often seems to pad up, unjustifiably in m'humble, the news bulletins. I suppose the news purveyors don't want us to switch off feeling miserable, though I often feel more miserable after being fed that stuff than I do after seeing the real news (which I can't define anyway...).

Our local papers are more inclined to carry more "good" news, trivial though it can seem on the surface. The Bude and Stratton Post fills its pages with agricultural shows, fêtes, local sports reports and kids' achievements in schools, etc., usually with lots of cheery photos. I tend to flick through it all quickly but I would never diss it.

It's always worth remembering that the news fed to us by the mass media is what someone in an office somewhere has decided we should get, and will routinely fail to balance the good happening in the world with the bad.
