Interesting....

"The Pope Song" is a song written by Tim Minchin in 2010.

The song is a response to the allegations that Pope Benedict XVI protected priests and other church officials who were accused of child molestation. The song caused controversy due to its religious themes and use of profanity.

But anti-papist prejudice is so 19th-century. Pope Francis is a pretty good guy - conservative Catholics hate him, and no wonder. Benedict, the subject of this song, resigned - but he acknowledged the failures of the papacy and the Catholic Church in the sex abuse scandal. John Paul II was the last Pope who claimed perfection, and he's the one who covered up the sex abuse scandal. Why he was named a saint, I'll never know.

Nothing to do with "anti-Papist prejudice", Joe - its about the Pope ignoring/covering up child molestation. Try reading for content. Yeah-he "acknowledged the failures - AFTER he got caught.

Seeing the thread title
reminded me of the fuss, many decades ago,
of the Dutch parody about Pope John Paul II.
THey called him Pope JP
and went from this to
"Popie Jopie."

There was a satirical video that went with the hit song,
with the Popemobile and nuns accompanying the pope.
