Subject: BS: alternative world cup From: peteglasgow Date: 18 Nov 22 - 03:51 AM 3 days to go til the Budweiser Qatar Fiasco kicks off yet (i think) no mention of the thing on here yet. i know it may be a wee bit late to organise but could we have an alternative event - staged in Scotland and Ireland? this for teams that didnae qualify, for qualifying teams and their fans who are pissed off with the whole thing and for teams from the countries who sent migrant workers? i'd watch it |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Rain Dog Date: 18 Nov 22 - 04:00 AM Scotland would always want an alternative World Cup. I thought I heard the Nicola Sturgeon say that on Peston last night. I do agree that lots of people, including myself, are not happy with the situation we have now. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Nov 22 - 06:38 AM Announced this morning that alcohol will not be allowed except in the ‘entertainment boxes’ in the grounds. At £19k (allegedly) to rent a box, it will be an expensive tipple! Apparently, Budweiser - the main sponsor of the World Cup - are rather pissed! (pun intended!). |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Steve Shaw Date: 18 Nov 22 - 07:40 AM Budweiser isn't actual beer. It's cold yankee piss. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Rain Dog Date: 18 Nov 22 - 07:44 AM "Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters. “There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero, which will remain available at all Qatar’s World Cup stadiums.” Drowning your sorrows with Bud Zero? I don't think that will work. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Nov 22 - 08:24 AM ”Drowning your sorrows with Bud Zero? I don't think that will work.” For health reasons, I’m unable to drink alcohol, but I do drink zero- and near-zero-alcohol beers. You have my firm assurance that you are correct in that belief. Even in a world of weedy ‘beers’, Bud Zero is watered down weasel piss. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Donuel Date: 18 Nov 22 - 09:23 AM Budwieser is Belgium owned. The miracle on turf...THE US WINS THE WORLD CUP ! (We have tv commercials that has Santa celebrating that miracle) |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: keberoxu Date: 18 Nov 22 - 09:29 AM Pete, I started a thread titled FIFA World Cup 2022 unlike any other. It's been around most of the year, this thread (started in February) and got up to 50 posts, still open. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Nov 22 - 11:38 AM Budweiser is pretty awful - and there's a brewery a couple of miles from the house. At night sometimes there is a yeast smell in the air from venting at the plant. Maybe if a better beer was being sold Qatar would allow it to be served to more people (not likely, but whatever.) |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: gillymor Date: 18 Nov 22 - 01:38 PM Interesting that Qatar bans alcohol from the the cup right before it starts after all those tickets have been sold and travel arrangements made after promising for years that alcohol sales would be allowed. Something smells fishy and it's not just the rancid Budweiser. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: peteglasgow Date: 18 Nov 22 - 05:20 PM sorry k, missed that in my cursory glance |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Donuel Date: 18 Nov 22 - 06:08 PM As sponsor of a beerless event, Bud is sore and its lawyers are busy. Without beer many will discover football is boring. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Steve Shaw Date: 18 Nov 22 - 06:09 PM Only people who don't understand football. |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: keberoxu Date: 18 Nov 22 - 06:49 PM Donuel, you think that soccer is boring? I don't understand much about soccer/football, and I don't drink beer, but I don't think soccer is boring. Now, American pigskin/football, on the other hand . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: alternative world cup From: Acorn4 Date: 19 Nov 22 - 04:38 AM There's a documentary on Netflix at the moment which reveals the extent of corruption in FIFA over the past ten years or so. Literally money in plain brown paper envelopes. I agree with the posts above that say Budweiser basically passes through the body in an unchanged state. |
