Subject: RE: Folk Music of the United States-Lib of Congress From: Thomas Stern Date: 31 Jan 23 - 08:47 PM starting in the 1940's the Library of Congress issued a selection of recordings from the Archive of (Ametrican)Folk Song (AFS)/AAFS) first on 78rpm sets, then transfered to LP. https://www.discogs.com/label/302214-the-library-of-congress?page=2 Each album contained a sheaf of notes about the recordings/songs/performers. Subject: RE: Folk Music of the United States-Lib of Congress From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Jan 23 - 10:58 PM Thomas posted a link to Rounder Records CDs of Archive of American Folk Song of the Library of Congress:I'll post a copy of that page and see which albums I can turn into YouTube links (which is going to be harder than I hoped it would be). Folk Music Albums Available on CDLibrary of Congress and Rounder Records Folk Music Compact DiscsThe Library of Congress and Rounder Records joined together in a project to reissue on compact discs American folk music from the legendary Library of Congress series Folk Music of the United States. The original series, launched in 1942, was the first documentary anthology of American folk music featuring field recordings drawn from the Library's Archive of Folk Culture. [Library of Congress produced by Rounder are currently out of print. These may be available through dealers in used and out of print recordings.] In a separate project, musician Stephen Wade produced a single CD anthology entitled A Treasury of Library of Congress Field Recordings. This CD provides an excellent introduction to the early collections of the Archive, as well as a glimpse of American musical history of the period.
Rounder Records has produced several other CD compilations of music from collections in the Archive of Folk Culture.

Subject: RE: Folk Music of the United States-Lib of Congress From: GUEST,Lighter Date: 03 Feb 23 - 10:39 AM Don't overlook the many more Lomax and other field recordings now online at the Alan Lomax site ("Cultural Equity") and at the Library of Congress website. Thousands more are still unavailable without a trip to D.C., but they may be working on them. |

Subject: RE: Folk Music of the United States-Lib of Congress From: StephenH Date: 03 Feb 23 - 02:20 PM As Joe's link had the title "The Farmer's Curst Wife" in it, I wanted to put plug in for the podcast called Fire Draw Near by Ian Lynch of the band Lankum. He usually does themed shows and the latest is around the many versions of the aforementioned song. Very well thought out and most enjoyable. https://soundcloud.com/firedrawnear/the-farmers-curst-wife/s-xQ8PjqNW3g6?si=90f8b48ecb614d99b605ea3928722595&utm_source=clipboar |
