Subject: BS: The last of us From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 Feb 23 - 03:54 PM Absolutely amazing series on HBO. Post apocalyptic drama but concentrating more on relationships and character development. Watch episode 3 if nothing else. Forget the rest of the sci-fi action and just watch the relationship between Bill and Frank from meeting to end of life. Best TV I have seen for decades |
Subject: RE: BS: The last of us From: Helen Date: 04 Feb 23 - 05:38 PM Thanks for the heads-up, Dave. I'll look out for it. We get so bombarded with info on new shows and movies that it's difficult to know which ones are worth watching. |
Subject: RE: BS: The last of us From: Steve Shaw Date: 04 Feb 23 - 06:39 PM Well we can't wait for the last episode of Happy Valley tomorrow night. The scene with the two sisters in the café was superb, as was the scary grooming scene at the end of the last episode. Brilliant stuff. My sister was the head teacher in the school they used in the first series, and she actually made an appearance in one episode as herself, taking a school assembly. She's a damn sight better looking than me! |

Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Dave the Gnome Date: 05 Feb 23 - 03:44 AM I'm into Happy Valley too, Steve. As you say, brilliant. I may have to delay tonight's episode until tomorrow morning as I may not be capable of watching anything serious following my three score and ten celebrations today :-D That cafe scene was the best TV I had seen for years and then the Bill and Frank episode of The Last Of Us came up. Maybe great TV scenes are like buses. Wait for ages then two turn up! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Dave the Gnome Date: 05 Feb 23 - 05:21 PM I managed to stay awake and, wow. Just wow! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Steve Shaw Date: 05 Feb 23 - 06:04 PM I might have to have a tiny drop of Talisker in your honour... (Excuses? Who needs 'em!) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Donuel Date: 05 Feb 23 - 07:43 PM There really is a fungi that is as deadly but not as contagious as the one on HBO. It's been mentioned here before. Its a strange movie combination of outbreak meets day of the triffids with overtones of Annihilation. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: robomatic Date: 11 Feb 23 - 05:36 PM My friends have been uptalking the Canadian show "Three Pines." I'll look for "The Last of Us." |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Donuel Date: 13 Feb 23 - 09:55 PM Great acting and writing in 3 Pines. I just finished 23 chromosomes, a film series out of Chile that brings one into a human world not so dissimilar to our own. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: meself Date: 19 Feb 23 - 03:57 PM The Last of Us was filmed in and around Calgary, Alberta, where I'm living, so there's been some excitement in the news media about it. Apparently, it's been boosting tourism. That's all I know about it! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Jeri Date: 19 Feb 23 - 04:19 PM I think I haven't seen the latest episode yet. Maybe the two latest. Bill & Frank - I guessed what was going to happen pretty yearly. All smitten-eyes - mostly Frank's. That house they lived in was stunning. (But how did they still have electricity, and hot water?) I know how I want it to end, but I don't see how, logically, that can happen. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Backwoodsman Date: 19 Feb 23 - 04:42 PM ”But how did they still have electricity, and hot water?” Jeri, they had a big generator, and Bill broke into a compound and turned a big wheel, which we assumed turned on the gas supply. It was a very moving episode, IMHO. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Jeri Date: 19 Feb 23 - 08:42 PM Agree, Backwoodsman. I'm pretty sure I saw the generator and gas supply, and just thought about it afterwards. (As in, "hey, wait a minute..." Weird things I think about. How would they get replacement parts for the generator? Where did they get the pills? And wine? I suppose if they were the only folks left alive in the town, they were the only ones who'd forage for supplies. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Backwoodsman Date: 20 Feb 23 - 01:20 AM I had similar thoughts, but I was enjoying it so much I decided a little ‘poetic licence’ was in order! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Donuel Date: 20 Feb 23 - 08:12 AM Notice how the villains start monologing and end up dead. Also there is a Star Wars Trooper syndrome where they always miss but the good guys never miss. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Dave the Gnome Date: 16 Mar 23 - 04:54 PM Just wow again! It was everything a post apocalyptic drama should be. Sod the special effects and scientific saviours. It was all about people and how they interact. If anyone thinks fantasy/sci-fi is not for them, just watch this. Bella Ramsay and Pedro Pascal are the acting dream team. The pace and production were spot on. Roll on series 2. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Last of Us - HBO Series From: Donuel Date: 17 Mar 23 - 05:49 AM The explanation for immunity does not seem plausible but the big lie is very human and an even larger sacrifice. |
