We had a request on the Facebook page for songs about Aristotle or ancient philosophers. The Mudcat search as DOA these days so results have to come via Google search pointed back at Mudcat.

Here are the Advanced Google search query results.

The Lyr Req: Unified Field Theory thread is a starting place in those results.

Barry's Boys is in the DT. It has the lyrics,

No college days with Socrates and Plato
When you're Barry's boys
You just organize parades for the abolishment of NATO
And the rest
The entire West

The Ancient Greek Philosophy Song, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyucNxqfvFE written and performed by Willem Crispin-Frei. Here's the first stanza:

The story of ancient Greek philosophy
Begins on the western coast of Turkey in 585 BC
Thales bore a philosophical daughter
Which was that the world was made of water
Anaximander thought that it was made of stuff
But Anaximenes said "Enough is enough"
He had a new theory, made with care.
He decided that the world was made of air.
Pythagoras and his followers were a bunch of fanatics,
Who thought that the world was purely mathematics.
A^2 and B^2 together he paired,
In a right angle triangle
They equal c^2.
Heraclitus thought the world was composed of fire
This greatly raised Parmenides' ire
He thought the world was an immovable block
And the past and the future were completely locked
"We have no free will at all," he said
Heraclitus replied: "hey you must be brain dead
Zeno of Elea agreed with Parmenides
But now let's talk about Empedocles
Love and strife were the two main forces
As he explained in one of his many discourses
They brought together earth, fire, water, air
Which comprised the world, as he did declare.

Boars Head Carol has a connection with Aristotle

Source wiki

Where an amusing tradition formerly current in Oxford concerning the boar's head custom, which represented that usage as a commemoration of an act of valour performed by a student of the college, who, while walking in the neighbouring forest of Shotover and reading Aristotle, was suddenly attacked by a wild boar. The furious beast came open-mouthed upon the youth, who, however, very courageously, and with a happy presence of mind, thrust the volume he was reading down the boar's throat, crying, "Græcum est," and fairly choked the savage with the sage.

Philosophy

1.        Those ancient Greeks they real geeks
As knowledge they pursued
And Socrates and Plato they were real clever dudes,
To fathom out life’s mysrteries
They both felt the call
Postulated their hypotheses
To make sense of it all

2.        More recently Rene Descartes
Said we think therefore we am;
And others they soon followed on
To add to the pile of spam
Of essence and existence
They got in a total stew
And the more they disagreed
The more hot air they blew.

Spinoza can’t help you when your bills are overdue
And Leibnitz can’t cure you of a bad dose of the flu,
Kirkegarde’s no use when you’re stuck in a traffic queue.
And Wittgenstein can’t get rid of that pebble in your shoe
And so to the conclusion we inevitably come
Philosophy is bugger all use to anyone.

3.        We now have endless “isms” coming out of our ears
And professors on megabucks plot out a good career,
Though their opinions differ, they can’t all be right
Which means that some are being paid for spouting a load of Schopenhaur.

Spinoza can’t help you when your bills are overdue

4.        Now science can make progress to improve the lives we live
And novelists and songwriters have important gifts to give
But I fail to see how Schrodinger’s cat can change our daily lives
As philosophers just pass their time gazing up their own backsides.

Spinoza can’t help you when your bills are overdue
Is this really a table seems such a daft question
Philosophy is bugger all use to anyone

Thank you! I was searching youtube for that song last week, and couldn't recall who had recorded it. Written by Mark Graham, I believe, who would be the guy playing harmonica in the picture (or sparking up a cigarette ...!).

Quite correct, on both counts, "meself".
