Subject: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged) From: GUEST,Fitz Date: 15 Aug 23 - 03:30 AM I heard this excellent rewrite of Barrett's Privateers at the monthly shanty sing in San Francisco some time back, but foolishly neglected to ask the singer for the lyrics. Digging on here, I understand that it was the wish of the author - Mary LaMarca - that the lyrics not be shared online, but only with people who have heard it sung. LaMarca is regretfully no longer with us, and I can't find any references to the song more recent than 2011. I'm curious whether anyone knows who the current "keeper" of the lyrics are, so that I might contact them for a copy. Thanks |
Subject: RE: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged) From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 15 Aug 23 - 03:57 AM She came to Australian many years ago & I (used to?) have a copy I definitely used to have a lever-arch folder of songs & culled it ruthlessly some years back & have no idea where the surviving song sheets are. It was definitely not scanned & added to my computer files. I just found it! In the second place on my floor where I looked. If no-one in America can help you, if you join Mudcat & send me a PM (personal message) I could email it to you note on the bottom of the beautifully illustrated page says "Sing this wherever you wish; give the words to a friend; I only ask that these lyrics not be posted on the Web or in magazines; I'm having too much fun seeing how far it travels hand to hand (or is that hand to ear? ...) © 1992 Mary E. LaMarca |
Subject: RE: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged) From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Aug 23 - 04:37 AM Hi, Fitz - Mary didn't want us to post it, and we've honored that. But her husband George said I could send it out. Email me, and I'll send you a copy. It's a classic. And I miss Mary very much. She was such a nice person, and so brilliant! -Joe- joe@mudcat.org |

Subject: RE: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged)-Fitz please reply From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Aug 23 - 10:28 PM Well, Garg, she lived in Maryland and worked for the Government. But she sure was a nice person, and brilliant. Still no word from Fitz. |
Subject: RE: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged)-Fitz please reply From: Jeri Date: 17 Aug 23 - 12:58 PM Richard Mellish, yes. I had the words, but that was on a computer from long ago, and I'm guessing you've gotten them now. Mary sang it for Nathan Rogers (son of Stan) (because a few of us prodded her) who seemed to like it. |
Subject: RE: Ring of the Nibelungs (abridged)-Fitz please reply From: Jeri Date: 17 Aug 23 - 01:00 PM Nathan also commented "but if you make a bunch of money from it, I want some". It's possible he was joking. |
