Nick Dow is in hospital waiting for angioplasty and a stent. He had a heart attack on Monday morning. Fortunately a small one. I went to see him, he is in good spirits and has loads of support so has the family. He has had to cancel his gigs, and says he will will contact everybody when he gets out. It will mean a lifestyle change, and he is not resisting that. I thought you would like to know.

very sorry to hear this. As Pete Waddon says quite correctly - music is therapeutic.- just holding my guitar ( I find) is very soothing and it calms me down.

The performance thing is a lovely thing to have in your life. But gigging professionally is stressful. The roads seem to get worse, more full of psychotic drivers.

I loved performing but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. The music is the thing - its always waiting there for you like an old friend. Its a sort of dividend that that has been building up all these years when you were practising and hustling round.

In hospital a bit broken hearted. Mally finally bought me in a laptop. Turns out I had undiagnosed diabetes, and that helped to damage my veins
Anyway I am off to Leeds hospital for for angioplasty, and possibly a stent and maybe open heart surgery (hopefully not) Thanks to my 'Friend' who is in fact a grandchild, starting this thread, and thanks for your kind comments.

Well not too bad really. I have had a stent put in and I’m very fragile. It turned out that my GP missed Diabetes, and left untreated helped to cause the heart attack. Not very happy about that! Mally has been a magnificent nurse, and called the ambulance got it here in ten minutes, calmed me down got me in it, and helped save my life. Since she is the one that made a man of me in the first place, I have a lot to be thankful about. A couple of weeks should see more like the old show off Nick!

Glad you're getting sorted Nick. Fortunately my GP spotted my signs of diabetes and I've been in Metformin for about 20 years now. I'm not always as well behaved as I should be (too much beer) but I always try to get back on track

I just saw this - best to you Nick for a speedy recovery. I had problems here at our local folk festival 17 years ago, and came out of hospital 10 days later with a quad bypass, so I do have an idea of whay you're going through. So glad you have a solid caregiver, as did I. All good wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

Thank you all for the support and kindness that has been shown to me. I have had messages from all over the English-speaking world. I will admit I was ready for retirement but my wife and so many others have persuaded me to carry on as best as I can.
I tried singing with guitar today 4 songs were enough before I felt I needed to stop. No doubt I'll get stronger.
I have had over 200 messages of support, and they mean a lot to me.
The NHS treatment I have received has been exemplary, and the diabetic nursing has been encouraging. The missed diagnoses of diabetes are being investigated, and decisions will be taken no doubt. (nuff said)
Meanwhile, I hope to be back driving soon, and back singing sometime in October. Thank you all again

Hi Nick, I hope you are well on the way to a full recovery and I've got something for you to occupy your "good" hours.

As you may be aware your email was hacked some time ago and I for one keep getting emails from "Nick Dow" which I presume contain spam or pornography.

Fortunately I have the wit to check email addresses before opening emails but recently they have been coming thick and fast.

Perhaps you could see if you could prevent them.
