Subject: Lyr Add: Isle of Eigg (Robin Laing) From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Feb 24 - 04:13 PM Another interesting song by Robin Laing: https://stewarthendrickson.com/songs/IsleOfEigg.html ISLE OF EIGG Robin Laing T'was in the merry month of May When balmy winds first blow I met my love in Arisaig Where rhododendrons grow I met my love in Arisaig In the shadow of Craig Mhor The sun shone on the Isle of Eigg Far from the silver shore. The sun shone on the Isle of Eigg Far from the silver shore. And in the months that followed Our love and friendship grew Warmed by the summer sun And a love that was so new. We walked among the hills And heard the crashing ocean's roar. The sun shone... Autumn came to Arisaig With colours fair to view Birds were flying south again Soon we followed too. A sad song echoed in the hills Lochaber no more. The sun shone... T'was in the merry month of May… Arisaig is a small town on the west coast of Scotland in the district of Lochaber. Just off shore is the small island of Eigg. Craig Mhor is a prominent feature near Arisaig. The second Jacobite Rising of 1745 took place in Lochaber. It was among the rugged hills and glens that the fugitive Prince Charlie took refuge, protected and sheltered by the loyal Clans until he could be smuggled over to the Isle of Skye by Flora MacDonald. The massacre of Glencoe took place in Lochaber on Feb. 13, 1692. Recorded by Linda Dewar "Where The Heart Is" Robin Laing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMg4DZ_2Kp8 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Isle of Eigg (Robin Laing) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 12 Feb 24 - 07:36 PM I’m surprised this song hasn’t hit the DT or been commented on before now, unless it’s buried in the depths of another thread. It was one of Robin’s earlier recordings on his 1989 album “Edinburgh Skyline” and is hugely popular around the Scottish folk sessions scene. |
