Not the most important dream but the most vivid and remembered dream was when I was 24 and dreamt I met myself as an old man. It began with the astonishment of the old self saying "I don't know how you got here". The questions I had were not all answered and the subject of time was most important to the old man. He wore a white lab coat and the encounter was lengthy.

Today I am a liberal for cultural progress in thinking with a future foundation that is conservative in the conservation of life on Earth.
In my past, I bought into the live for today for a profit tomorrow paradime.
Today I would advocate for working for our 7th generation. Not that 7 is a magic number but just to respect the reality that the future is much greater than the now. However now is all we have to effect the future.

My most unusual dream was of struggling to eat a giant marshmallow.... when I woke up, I couldn't find my pillow.

As mentioned in another thread I keep my phone beside the bed with a voice recorder app on it as I keep waking up with a tune or even a snatch of a song in my head.
They usually turn out to be rubbish once I have woken up properly, but occasionally not.

Nothing to do with music but I had a nightmare a few days ago where I had to answer a question for something (a job interview? An exam? No idea.)

The question was 'Draw a rectangle."

Not, I guess, the stuff of most nightmares. But, you see, if it needed to be freehand, a rule and square would be banned. But, on the other hand, if the wanted it as accurately as possible they would be essential. Was the rectangle supposed to be the main thing, or was the appeal of it the important thing? So, for example, should it be as close to a mathematically thin line as possible, or should it be Grinling Gibbons ornate? One colour, or multiple colours? Flat or 3D?

In my nightmare I had come up with hundreds of rectangles and know way of deciding what 'they' wanted.

I remember nothing else about the dream, by the way.

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over
Sandman, I'm so alone (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Don't have nobody to call my own (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
Give him the word that I'm not a rover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over
Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Mr. Sandman (yes) bring us a dream
Give him a pair of eyes with a "come-hither" gleam
Give him a lonely heart like Pagliacci
And lots of wavy hair like Liberace
Mr. Sandman, someone to hold (someone to hold)
Would be so peachy before we're too old
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring us, please, please, please
Mr. Sandman, bring us a dream

I had a dream long ago, but not long enough, that I was pawning Woody Allen's saxophone. Ostensibly, on his behalf I hasten to say.

I dream often of Tom (Mudcat's Curmudgeon). In some of the dreams he sings, and when he does, it's his pre-vocal cord cancer voice. His speaking voice (when he speaks in the dream) is also his pre-cancer voice.

I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
With vassals and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls
That I was the hope and the pride.
I had riches all too great to count
And a high ancestral name.
But I also dreamt which pleased me most
That you loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same.
I dreamt that suitors sought my hand,
That knights upon bended knee
And with vows no maidens heart could withstand,
They pledged their faith to me.
And I dreamt that one of that noble host
Came forth my hand to claim.
But I also dreamt which charmed me most
That you loved me still the same
That you loved me
You loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same.

Most researchers on the subject of dreams seem to come up with variations on the theme that:

"Dreams are the mind's processing of yesterday's transactions, and preparation for tomorrow".

Nightmares are reckoned to be the result of a problem being solved, or not, and the difficulty thereof.

The conundrum is that the references are oblique, wordplay, pun etc.

eg a rectangle might be a house, a container, pugilism (as in box), or a corner that needs repair (wrecked angle - a pun)! Other personal references are available.

FWIW I used to record my dreams but rarely got a solution out of them, and it took 2 hours a day trying to read/interpret scribble, written half asleep in the dark. The only dream I remember now predicted my divorce 3 years before it crept up on me. And I wasn't able to read the signs. They only became obvious a couple of years after divorce.

Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
The room was filled with men
And the paper they were signing said
They'd never fight again
And when the papers all were signed
And a million copies made
They all joined hands and bowed their heads
And grateful prayers were prayed
And the people in the streets below
Were dancing round and round
And guns and swords and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war

I still remember a conversation in dream I had as a child.
I was performing a ballet on the lawn
"Maureen, I didn't know you could dance"
"I can't, it's only a dream"

Not quite a nightmare but very unsettling all the same. I dreamt that we needed information that this one guy had, information that he refused to give.

Not only did I agree to torture him but I was the active leader: I threatened him with a knife, which I eventually did NOT use, but I kept dunking his head into a bucket of water, letting him up only briefly for gasps for air.

Brrrrr.... I woke up, shuddering.

My take on this, slightly skewed: Anything common to the human condition cannot be alien to me.

I've been thinking it's time to see a dermatologist since I haven't been to one for a very long time. I must have had this was on my mind overnight when I dreamed a very large triangular shaped mole appeared on my inside elbow. I also remember examining myself for more moles and realizing I seemed to have an extra set of nipples.

No, and I don't remember dreams very often, but I vaguely recall a dream about taking the dogs to the vet last night. (My blue heeler is missing a nipple because she developed a nasty case of mastitis and surgery left her minus the infected gland and nipple, if you tried to count hers while rubbing her soft tummy.)

One theme that repeats is that of being very high up over ground, usually in some rickety vehicle or lifting device which I'm barely able to control.

The other thematic element which I can't understand is that I'm often 'surprised' in my dreams. How does that happen? That a mind is able to trigger a surprised reaction on itself. The obvious answer is that the unconscious is pulling one over on the conscious, but does that mean that one sleeps and the other does not? Or they sleep different?

In my nipperhood, if I was having a horrible lucid dream (i.e. I knew it was a dream), I found I could escape by an action such as jumping off a cliff, which invariably made me wake up.
I'm glad to say this hasn't happened outside of a dream - so far.

Thanks. I'll think that one over. Although I do Wordle every morning, I'm not aware of any 'hidden' revelations in order to do a solve. The New York Times has other puzzles, and the one that gets my serious attention is CONNECTIONS, which starts with a 4 x 4 of what appears to be random words. They need to be sorted into 4 groups of 4.
Which I mostly can do, but by no means not everytime. This morning and yesterday morning, I was able to get 2 correct groups together, but not the remaining two.the

When I'm staring at the group of words my conscious mind is not even befuddled. It's just sort of a 'DUH' moment. Then I see what might be a relationship worth pursuing. You get a total of four mistakes, the fourth mistake is 'bye-bye'. It does do one interesting thing. If you select four items and hit 'submit' if three of them go together there is a brief message that you are 'one away'. This can make thigs better. Or worse.
