Sad news today

Leeds legend Rob Burrow dies aged 41

Amongst all the nasty and selfish people in the news at the moment Rob was an inspiration to us. He will be sorely missed by thousands as well as all his loved ones.

That Leeds team was excellent, and I can remember many a glum drive back over the Pennines after watching the Loiners take us apart... Burrow, Peacock, Sinfield, Leuluai, McGuire, Hardaker...

It was an amazing thing that Rob went public with his struggle against MND, but not surprising, given what a brave bloke he was. As Dave said, an inspiration.

A very sad day.

Despite his diminutive stature, Rob proved himself a giant among men, both as a player, and in his fight against that dreadful disease. His immense courage should be an inspiration to us all.

Also his wife, Lindsey - her love for her husband, and her courage and determination in supporting him every inch of the way have been astonishing. A Good Woman in every sense of the word.

And what better friend could anyone ask for than Kevin Sinfield - an absolute diamond.

RIP Rob.

Lovely and emotional tribute to him on BBC Look North tonight.

I wrote a post last night, but then Mudcat closed down on me, so it didn’t get through
Also sorry to hear this news: enjoyed seeing some of his more spectacular tries shown on last night’s news. And pictures of him with Doddie Weir: different rugby codes, but staunch allies in their fights against this cruel disease. Good to see that they are going to build a special centre in Rob’s name.

Someone on TV said that inspirational is ofter overused but in Rob's case it does not go far enough. They were right. His last message is far beyond inspirational and so moving it should be compulsory viewing.
