Subject: RE: A mouse livced in a a windmill From: Alison Date: 05 Jun 97 - 12:08 AM Hi, Not sure I can remember all the words but here goes..... A mouse lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam, A windmill with a mouse in and he wasn't grousing.(?) He sang every morning, "How lucky I am Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam." Chorus "I saw a mouse there." "Where?" "On the stair." "Where on the stair?" "Right there." "A little mouse with clogs on." "Well I declare.""Going clip, clippity clop on the stair." (Right there.) There is at least one other verse but I can't remember it, but it had lyrics along the lines of.... living in a windmill in Amsterdam, ja. ...how lucky we am, living in a windmill in old Amsterdam. I think the mouse went on to have a family, that's how we ended up with a line with "we am" in it. Hope this helps jog someone else's memory. Alison |

Subject: Lyrics: Mouse in a Windmill Revisited From: Peter T. Date: 28 Aug 97 - 12:41 PM There was a thread a distant moon ago here (spot that tune) about the kids song "A Mouse Lived in a Windmill" (In Old Amsterdam). We found most of the lyrics, but I wanted to find either the chords or some recorded version. Does anyone know of an available recording? I have tried Raffi, Sharon, Lois and Bram, Shari Lewis, and various other scary kids singers, and racks of children's songbooks. No luck. Anyone have any clues? Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Lyrics: Mouse in a Windmill Revisited From: Mountain Dog Date: 28 Aug 97 - 02:20 PM Dear Peter, I've got a version (mentioned in the original thread) by Freddy and the Dreamers on an old Mercury LP. I'm fairly sure no-one's seen fit to reissue it, but I'd be happy to put it on tape for you if you can't find it anywhere else. Anyway, keep it in mind under "Last Resort" or something and good luck in your search. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics: Mouse in a Windmill Revisited From: Peter T. Date: 28 Aug 97 - 03:49 PM Dear Mountain Dog, Jeepers, Freddy and the Dreamers (they do crop up in the strangest places)? I will have a look. Thanks..... Freddy and the Dreamers..... (shakes head....) Yours, Peter |

Subject: Lyr Add: EEN MUIS IN EEN MOLEN IN MOOI AMSTERDAM From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Oct 03 - 08:33 PM AMG - All Music Guide lists 3 recordings of "A Windmill in Old Amsterdam": Jessi Colter, "Jessi Colter Sings Just for Kids: Songs from Around the World", 1996. Jessi Colter, "Around the World", 2000. Ronnie Hilton, "Best Kid's Party in the World... Ever!", 1999. This page has two obituaries for Ronnie Hilton, one from The Guardian and one The Telegraph. They say Hilton recorded it around 1967 and it sold a million copies (in Britain). Here are the lyrics in Dutch (but the English version came first, apparently): Copied from http://web.inter.nl.net/users/R.Hiddinga/kids/eenmuis.htm EEN MUIS IN EEN MOLEN IN MOOI AMSTERDAM Er was eens een muisje in mooi Amsterdam Die zat in een molen heel stiekem verscholen Hij zong elke morgen: wat is het toch fijn Een muis in een molen in Mokum te zijn Ik zag een muis (Waar?)

Subject: RE: A mouse lived in a windmill From: Mickey191 Date: 15 Oct 03 - 05:24 PM The mouse spoken of above has a cousin who lives in a tavern. Some unknown wrote this about him: Some Guiness was spilt on the barroom floor when the pub was shut for the night. When out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse and stood in the pale moonlight. He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor, Then back on his haunches he sat. And all night long you could hear him roar, "Bring on the God Damn Cat." |
