Ok, I don['t know the name of this song, and I don't know many of the lyrics. (I know, not much to go on.) All I can remember is a guy and a girl were singing it back and forth, and it was repetitive. Like: If I give you a diamond ring, somethingsomethingsomethingsomething Would you marry, marry marry marry Would you marry me?

Then the girl replies,

What would I do with a diamond ring, Somethingsomethingsomethingsomething So I won't marry, marry marry marry, I won't marry you.

Help!

Try "Paper of Pins" which begins,

"I'll give to you a paper of pins,
and that's the way our love begins,
if you will marry me, me, me, If you will marry me."

It's probably in the DT database.

Oh, I know this one! I have the Clancy Brothers and their sister singing this song on CD. Very cool!

Certainly it could be Paper of Pins, but the description also fits MacColl's (or was it Seeger's?) "Darling Annie" pretty well.

However that doesn't appear to be in the DT . . though it's a song we've always loved.

Thanks, guys! Although I like Sarah's version better. The closing verse is something like:

"The truth from you I cannot hide, I have a lover on the side. So I can't marry, I can't marry, I can't marry you."
