Better late than never - I was just singing this and wanted to check for the words, but here's what I remember:

[C] Here I am back [F] home again
[C]I'm here to [G] rest
[C] Everyone asks me [F} where I've been
[G] Knowing I've been [C] West

Chorus:
[F] I'm the family's [Em] unowned boy
[F] Golden curls of[C] envied hair
[C] Pretty girls with [Dm] faces fair
[G] see the shining [C] Black Sheep Boy

Padre

(sorry, just previewed above, and the spacing has gone wonky. It's there on the site though).

2nd verse

"If you love me, let me live in peace,
try to understand
That the black sheep wears the golden fleece
and holds the winning hand"

I lent Tim a guitar for a gig in Montreal a long time ago..he had crossed the border travelling light... he had a lot of other verses to many of his songs that didn't make it to vinyl.
I remember a 20 minute version of 'Carpenter' with all these extra and fine verses.
He wasn't all junked up at the time and did a great solo show. Was fun hanging out with him backstage, but he was complaining that I didn't have finger picks to go with the old Gibson and that the use of metal finger picks on the 6 -string was becoming a dying art..

he put quite a few dings on the top near the neck with a thumbpick, so I was glad he had to use his nails for the rest.... still owes me a set of strings... small price for a brush with greatness.... what a singer !
