Subject: Some Home Recording Advice Please?? From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 01 Feb 00 - 05:10 PM So I just got myself a good MP3 encoder... and I'm giving thought to recording some of my own musical ramblings... All I have at this point however is the cruddy little mic that came with the 'puter... that gooseneck thing... Any advice, short of getting a mixing board and plugging it in tothe beast? |

Subject: RE: Some Home Recording Advice Please?? From: Amos Date: 01 Feb 00 - 05:17 PM Get a good unidirectional mic; the only thing to check is whether it has the right output voltage for preamp levels or whether you need to put it through a preamp of some kind, such as a tape recorder equipped for recording, just to step the voltage up to the level needed by the sound-in on the putain. The Unidyne line from Radio Shack sometimes ha sproblems with line noise which means the output will have a hiss in it. If the mic is the osrt that is battery-assisted it will usually have the right output level of voltage without further preamplification. You want unidirectional because it will minimize ambient sound interfering with your own dulcet tones. There are a lot of software packages out there that will let you do multiple tracks, editing, special effects and filters, and some of them are shareware. I got one for the Mac for free from the author because sales were slow and it feels my needs (as a beginner at home audio) nicely. Go to town, Clinton. Expect you'll be cutting your own commercial quality CDs before September! A |

From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 01 Feb 00 - 05:42 PM Thanks fer yer vote of confidence there Amos, but is that an offer to back this "commercial quality CD"??? LOL!!! I've wanted to do that for some time, but while the wife is in school, we're spending every penny we make.... not that I'm whining and sucking.. I don't wanna come off sounding like and old Country & Western tune here... ;-) I'll experiment around here and see what happens... |
