Does this name ring a bell? This wonderful singer recorded many beautiful French traditional songs. He made an LP called Folklore des Pays de France. I heard him sing at The Barns of Wolftrap (near D.C.) maybe 15 years ago.Does anyone know whether Jacques Douai is still alive? I would like to have a list of his recordings and, if possible know where one might find them--here or abroad.

Merci de tout mon coeur!

Nancy-Jean

Bien à vous

Simon-Pierre

I thought that site looked as though it listed the titles of the songs, at least, so maybe that will help? (Sorry I don't read very much French.)

Found another one which lists him as one of the artists on a "S.D.C.F.M. Pop-Club Collection Vol.1 at:

http://www.fleyfel.ca/coll_1.html

Here is what looks as though it might be a bit of biography or review about him at:

http://www.club-internet.fr/chorus/HOME2/NUMERO29/courrier29.htm#anchor3261179

Here is the title of an encyclopedia a professor wrote an entry for on him: Encyclopedia of Contemporary French Culture, London and New York, Routledge, 1998, (xxii) + 618pp.

This looks as though it is a video of him singing? http://canada-acsus.plattsburgh.edu/900/964.htm

Hope this helps!

kat - have you tried out the translate button at the bottom of every post? The translations are sometimes a bit weird, but are often quite helpful.

Thanks everyone! It is nice to see that one can find Monsieur Douai on the internet. Many of the songs on the LP from 1954 I learned when I spent my junior year in Paris. That was 1961 and I lived in a family that sang folksongs every day after lunch. I remember Madame Naudet singing "File la laine"--and imagining the wife sitting at the spinning wheel with nothing much to do but wait because her husband had gone off on one of the crusades. And the sprightly "Voici venir le mois de mai". Oh, those were splendid days of youth!
