I seem to recall a Smothers Brothers song about this fellow, I believe his name was Johnathon W. Astor, but my memory is dim. It was a great tune about how no one would waltz with him, as he was too good. Finally he met a woman with three legs that waltzed beautifully. The chorus end in 5/4 time, something like "I like the waltz, I have my faults; I have three legs (but I'm in good health) etc... etc...

Lyrics would be best, if anyone has them, but I'd settle for a proper song title, or even the album.

much obliged,

Lucius

I like the waltz
Simply becaltz
It makes me feel so waltzy

The song is by Mason Williams (who else? It's probably part of his five-part Dada Trilogy) and I'm pretty sure it's title is The Last Great Waltz. Mason Williams was a writer for the Smothers Brothers, in addition to having pop hits with his classical guitar recordings of Classical Gas and Greensleeves. I may be able to find the book I used to have of his songs.

Thanks Jacob B. Mason Williams, I should have known. Though none come to mind, hasn't he written several other comic songs? And what is this (five part) Dada Trilogy? Is is a precursor to Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's guide Trilogy?

I'd love the words, if you can lay your hands on them. My third grade class is listening to Strauss Waltzes, and I'd want to change the tempo.

Thanks, I'm off to search for Mason William Sites.

Lucius
