This site is at http://www.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/

or you can click here

I have been reccomending this site because they post gifs of any song in the DT with a tune...but discovered something very interesting a few minutes ago. For the heck of it, asked for the songwrite file rather then abc or gif. IT HAD THE CHORDS.

Now, I don't know if all of the songwrite files on this site have the chords, but all I have checked so far do. They don't mean much to me as I don't play an instrument...I need the melody line, but I know a lot of people are looking for the chords.

I'm using Internet Exploder and its working for me at the moment. Apparently things have been a little screwed up on the net this week so maybe some glitches are still in the system.

THe DT ain't competitive. I wish I could reach the person generating the site under discussion--I'd love to incorporate his score-generating program here, if he'd be willing to share it.

I went to http://www.google.com put in the url to search it then received a listing and selected the cache version as that is independent of the actual server. It worked fine whereas using the addresalone did not work. Conrad

Conrad, thank you for the info on finding it through google.com. I did that and voila! First time I've been able to get in there.

Here's a blue clickie thingie for anyone else who'd like to try it through google.com.

Dick, don't know if you've been there or not, so I copied this thinking it might help:

"The scores are generated by a program which reads the SongWright format and converts it into MusicTeX, a set of macros for the TeX or LaTeX typesetting systems (last I looked, MusicTeX was available via anonymous FTP)"

kat, I used your blue clicky thing and got the front page of this, but then it won't search; neither a text search nor clicking on an alphabetic listing letter reaches anything.

Dou you know anything about the program that translates SongWright to Tex or LaTex (or anything directly displayable)?

Sorry, doesterr, I didn't realise that the cache couldn't be used the same way as the website. When i tried a search on it, I got the same inaccessbile message, darn it!

Dick, sorry, I don't know beans about it. That is just what I copied from the front page of the site we're all trying to get to, for you to see. I was hoping you'd know what it was. I wonder if Alison, Alan in Oz, Jeri, or Jon Freeman might know?

A couple of times last week, I was able to access the site using the link in the first message. Doesn't work now. I tried tracing back through the guy's server, and it seems it's the server that's unreliable. That's been the history of that since since I first became aware of it - oftentimes, it just don't work.

Dick, I trust that Joe or MMario get a response. In the meantime I hope that I have located most of the elements of the software to make it happen, but please bear in mind that I'll have to learn some new tricks in a hurry in order to assess whether I'm on the right track. Piecing it all together in an automated way will then become a whole new story. Regards, John

when you go from google via cache you must create a new url for the links from the first page. figure out what the file name is remove the file name for the main page and insert it. then the google cache will be the server for the link as well...

hope this helps.... bobbing around with a bad cold at present....
