I found the tune in the Mudcat songbook files; but not the lyrics anywhere...it is on a Clannad album but the website which offers some of these lyrics does not have it. Anyone know where I can find them? thanks peg

Subject: Lyr Add: GREEN FIELDS OF GAOTH DOBHAIR / GWEEDORE
From: AKS

Hello Peg, I asked the same question last October and this is what is the result (if you ran the Search, you propably missed the thread because I used the anglicized spelling 'Gweedore' and the gaelic as two words 'Gaoth Dobhair' in the title, and somehow the complete version never landed onto the thread):

GREEN FIELDS OF GAOTH DOBHAIR

Down past Dunlewy's bonny lakes
one morning I did stray
until I reached sweet Clady banks
where the silvery salmon play
I strolled around through old Bunbeg (An Bun Beag)
and down along the shore
and gazed with admiration on the GFoG

I visit Magheraclougher
on Middleton Heights I stand
beneath me lies the ocean wide
and Magheragallen Strand
those sandy banks so dear to me
those banks I do adore
behind me lies sweet Derrybeg (Doirí Beaga) and the GFoG

The bonny isle of Gola (Gabla)
and Inishmean so near
I see the little fishing fleet
as it lies along the peer
I wandered through the grave yard where
those've gone before
that once lived happy and content by the GfoG

I see sweet Inish Oirthir
and far off Tory Isle (Toraigh)
I view the ocean liners
as they steam along in style
and bore the Irish emigrants
with hearts both sad and sore
as they gazed on own Tir Chonaill hills and the GfoG

regards
AKS

I tried to access the Mudcat Songbook files and was not able to.

Can anyone re-post the tune?

Thanks,

radriano
