Ian was living not far from Kilkenny, But I have a feeling he might have moved back to England.

The Campbells did a series on ITV back in the 70s. It might have been called 'Something To Sing About' which resulted in the LP of that title.

It was probably early in the days of video recorders but I wonder if anyone managed to record any of the programmes? Although priceless I would pay a lot for them!

They were a brilliant group. I have a video of the Campbell reunion gig from around 1995. Must get some of it up on Utube.

Stewie, the reason your blue clicky thingy did not work is that it is missing the two slashes // between the protocol specification (http:) and the location (www.towerrecords.com/).
These two slashes mean: this is a toplevel address.
If they are missing, the browser assumes it is an address local to the current address

Lorna suffered from vocal chord nodules a few years ago, and won't sing any more for fear of bringing them back. A great shame to us who remember her from the Jug o' Punch for all those years.

Many thanks for your help STEWIE, I was able to link to Tower Site and have ordered the only two cds listed. Great to hear that Ian Campbell, like Liam Clancy, is still alive and maybe even performing in the "West". I have some contacts over there who may be able to discover if and where. He was at Tonder Festival a couple of years back, not on the programme, but he sang at the big party they have on the Monday night for all the volunteers. He wasn't looking too well, I must say, but I don't really know. BTW, 'Something to Sing About' sounds like a reissue, as it is also the title of their 1972 album. - Susanne

Last I heard Ian was living over in the west of Ireland. Pity he and Lorna aren't recording, both had splendid voices.

Terry K, Ian is Ally's Dad, Lorna is his Aunty ie. Ians sister. Robin also plays in UB40.

You probably know this but Ian and Lorna are dad and mum to young Alistair, aka Aly Campbell, lead singer in UB40 -the one with the lovely "white Jamaican" accent - must make for some interesting family conversations!!

The last I read was an interview by Colin Irwin in Folk Roots in April 1996. At that time, he was making occasional appearances, but not venturing far from Birmingham. He released an album in January last year: 'Something to Sing About'. A good deal of the Ian Campbell Folk Group output has been reissued on CD - Castle Communications/Essential has released 4 albums on 2 CDs. One of the best listings of what is available is at Tower Records: select 'Music' and put 'Ian Campbell' in the query box:

What ever happened to Ian Campbell who had such a "bonny" folk group? Does he/do they still record? Have they been re-issued on CD? Where do they perform nowadays? help!
