Subject: i'm looking for a old spritual lyic
From: GUEST,louise-rich@ouhsc.edu

I'm trying to find the lyrics to an old Christian spiritual. I don't know the title, but only one verse:
I saw the scar of a year that lay dying
Heard the lament of a lone whiporwill
Spirit of God, man longs that you only
    Fill the earth
    Bring it to birth
    And blow, where you will
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But the breath of the spirit blowing in me.

Spirit of God in the finger of morning
Blowing to greatness the trees on the hill ....

Do you have any idea what the name of this song is, and where I can find the rest of the lyrics?

Thanks so much,

Louise

Hmmm. It's not in The Cyber Hymnal http://tch.simplenet.com/. Anyone?

It's by the nuns who also wrote (and sang) The Wedding Banquet, Joy is Like the Rain, and Zaccheus.

Thanks, Vissjoy - that's just the hint I needed to help me find it.

SPIRIT OF GOD
(words by Sister Miriam Therese Winter)

Spirit of God in the clear running water
Blowing to greatness the trees on the hill.
Spirit of God in the finger of morning,
Fill the earth, bring it to birth
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But breath of the Spirit blowing in me.

Down in the meadow the willows are moaning
Sheep in the pasture land cannot lie still.
Spirit of God, creation is groaning,
Fill the earth, bring it to birth
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But breath of the Spirit blowing in me.

I saw the scar of a year that lay dying
Heard the lament of a lone whippoorwill.
Spirit of God, see that cloud crying,
Fill the earth, bring it to birth
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But breath of the Spirit blowing in me.

Spirit of God, every man's heart is lonely,
Watching and waiting and hungry still
Spirit of God, man longs that you only
Fulfill the earth, bring it to birth
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But breath of the Spirit blowing in me.

Hi, Annette - take a look at the Permission for use (click) section of the Web page of Sister Miriam Therese Winter. I think it's automatic for one-time use if you're not charging admission for the event, but read the page over for yourself. Note:
To use a song on an ongoing basis and/or to include a song or songs in a parish or congregational hymnal, or in a book to be published, or at a public event at which participation fees are charged, a more formal permission is required. For such a permission, contact the Medical Mission Sisters....No fee is charged, but you will be invited, if you are able, to make a donation (any amount) to the worldwide healing mission and ministries of the Medical Mission Sisters.
I met Miriam Therese a couple of years ago. She's a very interesting woman and an excellent public speaker, and she still sings and writes songs.
-Joe-
