Subject: ADD: Dream a Little Dream of Me From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jan 99 - 06:34 PM Dream A Little Dream of Me written in 1931 by Gus Kahn (words) and Wilbur Schwandt & Fabian Andre(music) Kate Smith popularized it, and it was recorded in 1968 by Mama Cass Elliott. Stars shining bright above you, Night breezes seem to whisper, "I love you"; Birds singin' in the sycamore tree; Dream a little dream of me... Say "nighty-night" and kiss me, Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me; While I'm alone and blue as can be, Dream a little dream of me... Stars fading, but I linger on, dear, Still craving your kiss; I'm longing to linger til dawn, dear, Just saying this: Sweet dreams til sun beams find you, Sweet dreams that leave our worries behind you; But in your dreams, whatever they be, Dream a little dream of me Stars fading, but I linger on, dear, Still craving your kiss; I'm longing to linger til dawn dear, Just saying this: Sweet dreams til sunbeams find you, Sweet dreams that leave our worries far behind you; But in your dreams, whatever they be, Dream a little dream of me. |
Subject: RE: Dream a Little Dream of Me From: Tim Jaques tjaques@netcom.ca Date: 04 Jan 99 - 06:41 PM Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald do a lovely duet on this too. It never ceases to amaze me how too such totally opposite voices worked so well together. |

Subject: RE: Dream a Little Dream of Me From: Ralph Butts Date: 04 Jan 99 - 07:18 PM I loved the wonderful Mama Cass version for years before I realized it was an old song. Now I sing it for the 'rents (who are in their 80's) and they love it. I think this song was my personal singing breakthrough. I had previously stuck with safer stuff, like Johnny Cash (voice somewhat similar to mine, and quite straightforward), thought it would be an insult to Cass, but tried it anyway, and it came out fine. That boosted my courage to the point where I was willing to try anything. ...Tiger |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Dream a little dream of me From: M. Ted (inactive) Date: 03 Mar 00 - 09:48 AM It has an unusual key change, that makes it hard to play with open position chords--the easiest transposition to play is in the key of A, because the bridge is in F-- I didn't key it to the lyrics, because you wouldn't have any idea how the chords fit into the measures--If you play it as I have written it out, you will have no trouble figuring out how the melody fits over it- There is one measure of four counts between each of the slash marks, (music convention is that you write two chords per measure, even when they are the same chord), it makes it easier to follow-- play two down strokes on each chord-- Make up your own intro--
|A-A/F7-E7/A-A/F#7-F#7/Bm-Bm/Dm-Dm/A-B7/D7-D7| Please let me know that you got this--I I posted Green Dolphin Street for somebody and never found out if they got the chords--(check that out, it is a great song!)

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Dream a little dream of me From: GUEST,VM Date: 10 Sep 01 - 05:28 AM Jeep, I know you posted this last year, but I have a different and maybe easier set of chords for this song, but one that retains the jazz flavor. If you would like me to post them, email me at VintageMartin@aol.com and I will send them to you. The chords I use are C, a diminished chord whose name I don't know but that is easy to play, F, G, A7, Dm7, Fmaj6, G7, D7, and (at the end) Cmaj7. I can send or post a lyric sheet with chord inserted if you or anyone wants them. It's nice to see the ones posted above, too. VM |

Subject: RE: Chords Req: Dream a little dream of me From: M.Ted Date: 13 Sep 01 - 02:21 AM Somewhat later, I see that I screwed up the chords--I am sorry if any of you wrestled unsuccessfully with the ones I posted above--here are some better ones, though it is probably too late. Particularly, I had a D7 that should be E7 and added a couple of extra measures--You can play an A instead of the A6--Given that, I think it is still easier to play in A than in in C because in C, you have to play the bridge in Ab--
||A-A6/F7-E7/A-A6/F#7-F#7/ There are four counts in each measure, and I used a hyphen to separate them like this 1,2-3,4 because there are a couple measures where the third count is an F7 and the fourth is an E7 . |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: help;transcript of piano on Dream a litt From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Oct 02 - 07:46 PM Well, ordinarily, I'd send you to the Levy Sheet Music Collection (click). Unfortunately, their copy of this song is not available online because it's still under copyright. You can get sheet music at http://www.halleonard.com. Apparently it's not in any of their fake books, or else I'm using their search engine wrong. Seems like it should be in lots of fake books. The do have it in a book called The Lyrics Library: Love Songs. Here's the entry from Levy: Title: Dream a Little Dream of Me. Composer, Lyricist, Arranger: Words by Gus Kahn. Music by W. Subject: Chord Req: Dream A Little Dream of Me From: GUEST,Alley Date: 17 Jun 06 - 09:20 AM I have spent so much time trying to find semi-easy chords for this song, and I'm about ready to give up. It seems that all the chords I can find are sharps, flats, 7th, etc. Most chords require using bar chords, which are not the easiest to play. There must be an easier way to play this great song. I have checked every web site I can think of, and have come up with nothing but difficult chords. Can anyone help me? Many thanks. Alley |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dream A Little Dream of Me From: Leadfingers Date: 17 Jun 06 - 10:01 AM As the 'middle eight' modulates , there ISNT a simple chord run - If you play in G the middle eight chords are Eflat Bflat and C minor , so you are stuck ! - Unless some 'musician' has an easy set of chords !! |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dream A Little Dream of Me From: Genie Date: 17 Jun 06 - 01:11 PM I have a set of easy chords that work really well. The Fm6 chord (that's one thing I've seen it called) is very easy. It's just X00111 and uses only one finger. And the Dm7 I use is just 000211. The E flat dim and F# dim chords are interchangeable, and the Fm chord is optional |
