Kendall-- I love it!!! Took me about 5 seconds to figure it out; my CPU is on the floor under my desk. Then I fell onto the floor, laughing.

...last but not least...I opened the song circle with "A Calling Song" and played a recorded "When a Man's In Love" & "Spancil Hill", harassed Kendoll and his lady friend Pat (I'm so jealous!!)...croaked out "The Weaver", gave up on singing again and played another recording of "Bury Me Beneath the Willow" my rhythm guitar and Brad Keeler's wild and woolly improvised flatpick lead...will probably miss the next few Sundays because of music things away from town...
It was a very fun circle and I have lots of new material to learn...It's so thrilling to be a part of "The Premier Global Song Circle of the New Millenium"

Mark, the DT says Ian Robb wrote "Champion at Driving Them Crazy."

The only reason I wasn't there is my ISP was dead for over a day. Their timing sucked - I really missed the singing!

As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
As I walked out in Laredo one day
I spied a young woman, and she was disgruntled
She was disgruntled as she went on her way

Oh disgruntled woman, pray tell me your problem
What is your problem to her I did say
"My ISP crashed and I'm left unconnected
Not been able to log on at all this whole day...

Per a web site Jeri posted, from a VERY reputable anti-virus company, this is NOT a virus or any kind of a relative, but rather a small glitch in some printer drivers

I didn't realize people were giving their "set lists," so...a song of mine called "The Wonderful Shoes", that's in the DT, "Why Johnny's (a/k/a Paddy's) Not at Work Today", and a takeoff on "The Limerick Rake" called "I'm Champion of Driving Them Crazy." I would love to know who wrote that last one.
Kendall, I loved hearing I Remember Loving You. Unfortunately you were coming through in little chunks, but it was still a fine performance of a really fine song.
By the way, did anybody else pick up a virus when downloading HearMe? My printer froze up and the Properties screen showed a driver called Absolutely Bogus Printer Driver. After much gnashing of teeth and a few well-placed kicks (to the wall, not the computer, I'm not that dumb), I got it working again. Knock wood.

Aloha,
Mark

well, I followed Sorcha's fine fiddle rendition of "Irish Washerwoman" with a little parody of it..(which Kendall also does..and probably half the Irish in the world..*grin*).....also sang "Three Lovely Lassies from Bannion" , which I got sort of got by osmosis from an ancient Burl Ives record.(which Kendall also has..that guy is hard to surprise..)

I was READY....We had even done a sort of 'sound check' on the banjo...'Old Joe Clark'. Kat said it sounded good. Then my youngest who borrowed my truck earlier chose THAT PARTICULAR TIME to return it and of course needed a ride home. I had to stop what I was doing, told all I would be back soon. When I got back I fired up my pewter again....AND then...after spending the better part of Sunday afternoon getting my new sound card and mike to working just right....The damn monitor takes a dump!!!! I'm working now on a monitor I borrowed from my pewter guru....I'd be lost without him...Hope all goes well for next week.

OK, I'll post 'em. Early on Kate did Killkelly again, then Brian and I did Irishwasher Woman and Whiskey Before Breakfast. Brian did a short bodhran solo, and I did Biddy I'm Not Jesting and kinda sorta tried Blackberry Blossoms, but it wasn't one of my better nites. Kept hitting stuff with the bow hand and lousing up.

Wow! What a great session! From my point of view, the best yet!
I sang The Rising of the Moon and Mo Mary early on, but I'm told my volume was too low and people could hardly hear me. I think I got that fixed later;at least I heard no further complaints. I want to sing The Rising of the Moon and Mo Mary again sometime soon, because they are too good to waste.
After I got the volume fixed I sang Jerry Go and Ile That Car, Kevin Barry, I was Born in Cincinnati, The Swapping Song, and Get Up and Go.
Really looking forward to next week.

Unfortunately the tape is an old amateur job done in a living room in Cushendun and not very good quality. You let me know which you prefer and I will get the music for you.. I loved Sorcha's fiddlin'.

I read an Irish Blessing:

May those that love us, love us
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping.

Happy St. Pat's Day.

Well Alison sorry to mis you and I expected my stamina to be better than it was last night but I suddenly felt tried. At least I managed to get myself to bed though (my favourite trick is going to sit by the fire and faling asleep on the floor).

I enjoyed what I did hear though and it was nice to see more new faces as well as the "regulars" - knowing my memory, I'll have forgotten somebody or remembered wrongly but Mary in KY, Jo Taylor and Mark Cohen were all new to me in this session. The even seems to be growing in numbers and I seem to be enjoying it more and more.

I agree that kat was good with her whip last night.

Subject: Lyr Add: CUSHENDUN BAY + GOING HOME TO ANTRIM....
From: Dave (the ancient mariner)
Date: 12 Mar 00 - 10:03 PM

The two songs I sang that are not on the DT are: Composed by Brian Connors:

CUSHENDUN BAY

When summer comes round and the day's gettin' long
And the lark in the meadow pipes up his sweet song
We go out in the mornin' , We'll stay out all day
When we go out fishin' on Cushendun Bay

CHORUS

I've been down to Dingle and the west coast of Clare
No one denies that those places are fair
But the fairest of all. I'm right proud to say
Is that haven in Antrim called Cushendun Bay

From John of the rocks to the house at the caves
We'll search for the fish that live swim under the waves
And the longer the Conger, the better the day
When we go out fishin' on Cushendun Bay

CHORUS

And when we arrive at the bridge o'er the Dun
We'll share out the catch in the slow settin' sun
And a pint in McBride's will just finish the day
Or a stroll with my lass down by Cushendun Bay

CHORUS

Repeat 1st verse and chorus...

GOING HOME TO ANTRIM AGAIN

CHORUS

Im goin' home to Antrim again, I'm goin' home to Antrim again
I'll see the hills near Cushendun, I'm goin home to Antrim again
It's seven long years since I left there, But still I remember the day
The colleen who waved as I left her and told me to come home someday

CHORUS

I've travelled Australia all over, I've seen the wild kangaroo run
And I've stood at the harbour of Sydney, but I'd rather have wee Cushendun

CHORUS

On Trostan I'll stand in the evening , From there I'll look down to the sea
And I'll think of the places I've seen, But be glad that it's home I shall be
CHORUS

(line breaks added by a Joe clone)

I would also do The Hills Of Connemara if time permits. Hoist the Black Bushmills flag and off we go ...

Subject: Lyr Add: THE UNICORN (Shell Silverstein)
From: katlaughing
Date: 08 Mar 00 - 12:09 AM

Here ya go, Mark. I have heard it many, many times on the radio years ago:

THE UNICORN
(Shel Silverstein)
As recorded by Shel Silverstein on “Inside Folk Songs” (1962).

Well, a long time ago, when the Earth was green,
An' there was more kind of animals than you've ever seen,
An' they'd run around free while the world was bein' born,
An' the loveliest of all was the unicorn.

There was green alligators an' long-necked geese.
There was hump-backed camels an' there was chimpanzees.
There was cats an' rats an' elephants, but sure as you're born,
The loveliest of all was the unicorn.

Well, now, God seen some sinnin' an' it caused him pain.
He says, "Stand back, I'm 'onna make it rain."
Says, "Hey, brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do:
Go an' build me a floatin' zoo,

“An' you take two alligators, a couple o' geese;
You take two humpty-backed camels an' some chimpanzees.
You take two cats an' rats an' elephants, but sure as you're born,
Noah, don't you forget my unicorn.”

Well then, Noah was there an' answered the call,
An' then he finished up the ark just as the rain started fallin'.
He marched in the animals two by two,
An' called out as they went through:

“Hey, Lord, I got you two alligators, a couple o' geese;
I got you hump-backed camels an' some chimpanzees.
I got you cats an' rats an' elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
'Cause I just don't see no unicorn."

Well, Noah looked out through the drivin' rain.
The unicorns was hidin', playin' silly games.
They were kickin' an' splashin' while the rain was pourin'.
Oh, them silly unicorn!

Yeah, two alligators, a couple o' geese,
Two hump-backed camels an' two chimpanzees.
Noah cried, "Close the door 'cause the rain is pourin'
An' we just can't wait for no unicorn."

An' the ark started movin' an' it drifted with the tide,
An' the unicorns looked up from the rock an' cried,
An' the water come up an' sort o' floated them away.
That's why you've never seen a unicorn to this day.

You'll see lots of alligators an' a whole mess o' geese,
An' you'll see plenty hump-backed camels, lots o' chimpanzees.
You'll see cats an' rats an' elephants, but sure as you're born,
You're never gonna see no unicorn.

Wow, I haven't been to a song circle since I left Seattle in 1990! The Unicorn, by the way, is in Shel Silverstein's marvelous collection of poems, "Where the Sidewalk Ends". I don't think Shel had the Clancys' cute rendition in mind when he wrote it; does anyone know?

Kat, it seems yu jest prooved to yerself thet pruf reeding is not a bad idea!! I have a CW event this weekend, but should be home by &30. I am working on getting my mike functioning. I have tried all I know. I even got a mike from Walmart. The mike I have is a dymanic and all the good I've acomplished has been with it. (The Walmart mike won't even pulse the recorder1) It says in the sheet that comes with it that some older sound cards may not be powerful enough to make it work and that one may have to go to a dymnamic mike. I think my sound card needs to be upgraded. I'll see what I can do about that between now and Sunday. Hope to be there in living sound!!

Do we want to leave St. Paddy's Day stuff for the following Sunday, which will be after the fact? Or, do it this coming Sunday? Just happened to realise how close it is to being here!

Here is a Quick Link to the newest version courtesy of Jon Freeman.

Still on for &30pm, Mudcat (EST) time? Any of you in the UK want to start earlier?

Thanks, kat
